MTV'S My Super Sweet Sixteen

Has anyone watched this series?

I was watching this yesterday. The birthday girl was having some photo shoot on the beach wearing this white outfit and wings with her shirt tied just under her breasts. Then she bought a belly dance outfit and did a bellydance at her party.

Both times I'm pretty sure her father was standing there drooling. It grossed me out.

This is why I stopped watching MTV...

It's a guilty pleasure I guess you could say. I despise *almost* every girl. Some are worse than others. A recent one where a girl did a hip hop dance wasn't as bad as some of the others girls got.

I think I posted in the earlier thread...it sure would be a nice change of pace if they found a sixteen year old who used their wealth and the party for more than a token stab at charity. Sometimes they mention such money-raising as an afterthought, or else MTV edits it to make them look ridiculous. But the right teenager might change that trend.

There was an episode where 2 girls raised money for charity. They had a joint sweet 16 and made everyone pay for a ticket to get in I think and then gave the money to charity.

There was one where the girl was over 16 but had had mono and missed a semester or so of school. She set a presentation for her father because she wanted to rent a beach house that cost something like 18k per day. She got her way. And the huge black SUV she wanted.

Then there was the one where the parents presented her with an SUV for school and a little convertable for the weekends.

Sad and sick.

yeah, like I said, sometimes the charity aspect is mentioned in passing, but it would be nice to see one where it was the main ingredient of the event. It could have been a bigger part of the ones chosen so far, for all we know, but the editing makes each subject look as greedy and selfish and spoiled as possible. I certainly have moments like that myself....

I caught a marathon of this show when I was sick.

Totally a guilty pleasure. Insane! It's so awful you can't look away. I don't know who is worse--these entitled little mean girls or the pathetic, approval-seeking parents who indulge them.

Either way it's a fun guilty pleasure. The worst was this fugly, trashy girl from Staten Island, who arrived in a horse-driven carriage (on Hylan Blvd? Er, okay...) and asked her Gotti-boy lookalike dance instructor to be her "prince charmin' "...yes, "prince charmin'...no "g". The epi featured the teenzilla and her posse of hos on the hunt for party crashers, her crazy, slutty mother and ended with the birthday girl and Prince Charmin' doing "the lift" from Dirty Dancing. Good times.

that's why some variety in terms of the goals of the party (if not in our weekly protagonist) would be most welcome.

I would normally agree, Lil Sister. But I think in the case of MADE, they have varied the formula somewhat, to good effect. Of course I doubt the same producing team works on both, but in terms of MTV "overbearance" they could look to MADE's example to diversify SIXTEEN.
