With the parade being (almost) tomorrow, I was wondering if anyone has heard word on what shows will be performing?

American Idiot is doing Good Riddance.

Who went first? I missed the first eight minutes.

Ah, I love Elf! It's so freaking adorable!

Has BE already gone? I didn't realize it was on CBS and not NBC.

The American Idiot performance was awful. It was extremely awkward and didn't do a good job at all of selling the show.

The AI performance was good, I always just find the "we're all going to play acoustic guitars" bit too contrived for my tastes.

And yes, BE already went.

Oh, and I thought Memphis and Quartet were awful.

I hate Memphis, but their performance was well put-together and will sell some tickets. Just like Elf's number.

That performance would make me buy tickets to Elf, if it was possible for me to do so. I also thought the Billy performance on CBS was very well done, if a bit random, since what they did is technically never in the show as they performed it.

As much as I love BE, I don't really think that the performance they aired will sell the show.

I hate Memphis and have no interest in seeing it ever. However, today's performance was actually not terrible, like it usually is.

...Because it's the same damn song Memphis sings on every one of their television performances. They must have it down pat by now.
American Idiot's performance was so BORING and awkward. This is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, not a Joe's Pub after-hours show. If you're trying to sell the show, do one of your exciting, high-octane numbers, not something that's going to make someone say "why would I spend $150 to go see a bunch of moody 20-somethings awkwardly strum guitars"?

And since nobody's said yet, the numbers were:
Memphis: "Steal Your Rock and Roll"
American Idiot: "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"
Million Dollar Quartet: Medley (I think Folsom Prison Blues and Whole Lotta Shakin' were in there)
Elf: "Sparklejollytwinklejingly" (a title Meredith Viera had fun saying)

I've never understood why so many people here get all freaked out about watching groups of Broadway understudies lip sync on this parade and I really don't get why you then want to dissect whether or not you think it will help sell the show. Getting the name of the show and a song excerpt on the air is the point. Maybe somebody will remember the name next time a tour comes to the town. That's about it. But why you think an appearance could possibly lead to a rush on the box office is beyond me.

I also think some of you have temporary insanity when it comes to American Idiot. Let's see. THE single most recognizable Green Day song in the catalogue, played on just about every radio format there is. Soaring voices. Sentimental smiles and an army of acoustic guitars. It was kind of perfect except for the lip syncing.

We now return to our regularly scheduled Elf enthusiasm.

AI wasn't really bad, but then it wasn't really good either. Personally I don't really like their rendition of Good Riddance that much.

The big Spiderman float just went by. They mentioned the musical - why no performance?

Why so defensive of American Idiot Namo? We're all allowed to have our opinions. If someone didn't enjoy the performance, believed it to be contrived and trying to hard, or even just thought the cast was bad at lip-syncing, they are allowed to believe that. Just because you feel differently does not make your opinion any more valid than theirs.
