If the MACY's Parade was a true supporter or thermostat of B'WAY, they would showcase FINIAN'S RAINBOW, MEMPHIS, RAGTIME,FELA and perhaps a preview of THE ADAMS FAMILY, But, they are not. I don't think I'M A BELIEVER was even in the Curtain Call when I saw SHREK, but hey, the performers and some crew get an extra check, good for them. And the BIRDIE company is working on a lesser B'WAY contract, so they also can use the dough. I will watch, cause I love the Parade, and I thank the MACY's for putting the numbers on ungodly early. I would get up if THOU SHALT NOT was painfully repeated.
Well I don't really understand the Hair Love/Billy hate thing going on here, but I agree this lineup is sucky. Stamos was the worst part of BBB, I've never understood the Hair obsession and couldn't care less about that show, Shine is definitely not the best number they could've picked from a show that has a lot of terrific numbers, and Shrek I really don't care about.
Way to go Macy's. I'm excited about very little this Broadway season, but I still think they could've made some better choices.
This is horrific... I have no desire to watch any of this... Billy Elliot should have done electricity or something good... Even though I don't like Billy and Ragtime or Next to Normal would be 10x better! Bye bye birdie??? Weak! Should've picked Telephone Hour... Hair should be doing their signature song... HAIR! That number gets people excited and pumps them up! That would be a good way to get more audience members in the Hirschfield... However, I love the cast of Hair... SHREK??? What a dissappointment! Should have done Who I'd Be... God thats a great song! But no... they had to mess this up! UGH!
With the exception of Aquarius, it sounds like a very appropriate lineup for a Thanksgiving Day parade broadcast. Basically, the goal for this sort of thing is to hold the attention of parents and their young children. The demographic for the broadcast is not middle-aged musical queens and twentysomething theatre majors.
...and Shine is a cheap ripoff of Razzle Dazzle...
Except that it's an entirely different situation and dynamic. To me, it always sounded like a bit of homage to Chicago (which is also somewhat reflected in the staging as well) as Mrs. Wilkinson desperately tries to find any way to inspire her young students. It's a very cute number. Pretty much the only other numbers they could have used would have been Expressing Yourself (which would have caused an uproar on Fox News) or the curtain call. Electricity would just put the toddlers to sleep.
