FYI...according to drownedmadonna.com (a fan site), the working title of Madonna's forthcoming album may be "Defying Gravity"... May not have any connection whatsoever to Wicked... but just letting you know...

Madonna - The Broadway Album - can you just image!

oh god no...not yet... let's not get false rumors started LOL

although her "I'm Breathless" CD from Dick Tracy back in 1990 definitely had a Broadway feel to many of the tunes... It's not very well-liked by many longtime Madonna fans, but it's always been a guilty pleasure favorite of mine.

I'm sure its a coincidence. Though if Brittney Spears put out an album called "Defying Gravity" it would surely have the song from WICKED on it, as she is one of its more famous die hard fans.

We all know Madonna is capable of singing Sondheim. Terefore she can sing anything!

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Don't get me wrong, I love her but....
I guess Madonna's Bway Album was bound to happen SOONER OR LATER.

Well, both songs Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim won Oscars for were written for her....

She may not be the greatest singer in the world....but she is defiantely up there as one of the best performers. If her head wasn't so big, I'm more than sure she would accept Velma Kelly in Chicago, and she would do a kick-ass job with it, too.

Beer,
A few songs on the Dick Tracy soundtrack - most notably "Sooner or Later" but, he also wrote "Back in Business" "What Can You Lose?" (sung with Mandy Patinkin) - although the Judy Kuhn version on Unsung Sondheim is so much better) and a few others.

I think she'd have been great as Velma! CZJ was really great too but it would have been intresting!

"Sooner or Later." She gave a riveting performance at the Oscars, where she sang on top of a grand piano (and incidently one of her diamond earrings fell); I have it on MP3, and it's a zesty and energized performance.

Madonna's I'M BREATHLESS album is definitely inspired by both Sondheim and the showtunes of the 30s and 40s. Madonna has had several encounters with musical theatre (besides EVITA, and for the record, I though her performance in EVITA was pretty damn good): I believe some of the choreography in her recent Re-Invention Tour (the "Into the Groove" number) was inspired by that from CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG when she saw it with her family in London. And, of course, she was originally slated in to be Velma Kelly (and Goldie Hawn as Roxie) in the film version of CHICAGO.

Actually, it was Liza and Goldie for a while in CHICAGO.

But Madonna in WICKED? Madame Morible.

Fosse wanted Madonna to play Velma. But, the film didn't happen before he passed away.

Madonna wasn't singing atop a piano on the Oscars. Her stunning performance of "Sooner or Later" is featured in the Oscars Greatest Moments video--which is a great video.

I would love to see Madonna on Broadway. I'd love to see her write a musical for Broadway.

Madonna writing a musical for Broadway...I can't even...

Anyway, since Madonna and Ms. Spears are best buds, perhaps Britney enlightened Madonna as to the powers of WICKED, and Madonna is paying tribute to the show somehow? Perhaps recording the song as her title track?

"Well, both songs Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim won Oscars for were written for her...."

Even though I am a fan of hers I will say this: that doesn't prove anything as far as Madonna is concerned. The songs didn't win Oscars BECAUSE Madonna sung them.

WOW!!!
Does that mean I can add Defying Gravity to my Madonna show?
