What song did ALW write for Madonna?
Was it "You Must Love Me"?

Oh, and Madonna's performance at the Oscars?
She was a nervous wreck and it showed.

and yet, it was one of only two performances out of 20 years of Oscar telecasts, that the Academy featured the entire number on the video.
Some of you are scathing b!tches. lol But, I know that one of you only bothered to post to try and p!ss me off. Didn't work, honey.

I think her Velma would've been fantastic in the movie. She obviously has the perfect bitchy attitude for the role. She could dance it with no doubt, and definetly sing the songs.
If she wasn't so big, and the Weissler's weren't so cheap - I WISH we could see Madonna as Velma on Broadway!

With so many jukebox musicals around, I am still surprised no one has persuaded her yet to allow her songs to be made into one ! She has a great catalogue of fantastic and well known songs and with her business mind and artistic guidance it would be a smash hit !!! I know I'd run to see it more than once !

Actually, I remember in 1998/99 she was being courted to play the Emcee in CABARET on Broadway (she apparently loved the show). I think that would have been very interesting, to have a female Emcee -- and of Madonna's stature, no less.
I would love to see Madonna on Broadway. I'd love to see her write a musical for Broadway.
There's a rumour floating around that Madonna IS writing a musical, actually; most likely for the London stage.
Oh, and Madonna's performance at the Oscars?
She was a nervous wreck and it showed.
I still thought it was a fabulous performance (and it's quite enjoyable on MP3). Madonna does have a tendency to seem petrified during award-show telecasts (such as her singing "You Must Love Me" at the Oscars), which strangely isn't the case for her live tour performances, where she's quite natural and in her element.

Sorry BlueWizard, I love yer posts, but i gotta agree with another post that Madonna was Bad on the Oscars, shakin' like a leaf, and loosing pitch(again)
and an earing,
whoever screwed that earing on her, probly got a new one ripped that night.

again--the Oscars don't seem to agree that it was a bad performance--and seem to think it was quite the opposite. She sounded amazing that night.
And, wRath, I take no credit for your usual vitriol and misery.

jrb, your overreactions are becoming ridiculous. Other people on this board posted their negative feelings about Madonna more strongly than I. It's a message board - everyone gets to voice an opinion.

"I saw Madonna years ago on Broadway in Speed the Plow with Alec Baldwin. Can you say train wreck?"
I can say train wreck, Beav. But you dih-int see Alec in that show. You saw Joe Mantegna and the odious Ron Silver.
Now, where are The Lovers of Madonna Lore to remind everybody that seconds before the elevator was about to whisk her up on the stage to sing "Sooner or Later" on the Oscar broadcast a technician said, "Your mic's not working!" and then told her he didn't have a different one for her? THAT'S a person who probably got ripped a new one.
However, I am sure older, heavier members of the board who have voices that don't fit their look would have been able to do much better with that kind of scenario on a television program watched by millions around the world. I only hope and pray that we all get the chance to see that one day.

Madonna said in an interview that she'd love to star in a Broadway musical if "...someone would please write a good one..."

LOL
I'm a huge fan, but she's not always the most brilliant lyricist:
"Never forget who you are, little star. Shining brighter than all the stars in the sky. Never forget how to dream, butterfly." *vomits a little*
Then again, she's written some great ones- Like a Prayer for instance.

Hey there..you should come check out my show..it's called NEUROTICA and it's an all Madonna evening..below are some details..
John Hoglund of BACKSTAGE raves:
“Gurland is in better voice than ever, and everything he sings is fully realized”
“I can say with honesty that this show is one of the most exciting outings of the season”
“a tour de force”
“Gurland is an openly gay free spirit with a great pop tenor voice. In this show he illuminates the stage with a vibrant performance that is sexy, funny, and sensual. Much like Madonna, Gurland pushes peoples buttons, reinvents the norm-and it all works”
Just for BWW members, the normal $15 cover charge is slashed to $10 (plus a $12 food/drink minimum). There are two shows left; Friday, May 20 and Friday May 27, both at 9:30. The show is at The Encore located at 266 W. 47th Street (bet. Broadway and 8th Ave.) Reservations can be made by calling 212-221-3960.

Admittedly, Madonna's not the strongest lyricist (not compared to musical theatre lyricists, anyway), but sometimes she scores a lovely one: "Cosmic systems intertwine, astral bodies drip like wine." And she does have a remarkable ear for strong pop melodies. And hey, at least she writes some of her own songs, unlike most pop divas.
Back on topic, though: she was also in a play in London, wasn't she? I don't remember what it was called, but I believe she received mixed reviews that got better towards the end of the run.
