I love TABOO. I'm really sad that it closed so quickly. I love every song on that CD.

Magic-you are too cute! The title of this thread cracked me up. So glad you like the cd! (I would have felt really bad if you didn't!) Um, yeah...great show. Saw it twice, loved it. Every cast member contributed something special and different to the production.
I loved Taboo as well! I never understood why the critics slammed it so bad here in the States. The cast alone was worth the price of admission!
Just so everyone knows, it was the fantastic Chrysanthemum62001 who swayed me into buying the CD. Major appreciation goes out to you, darling!:)
and yay, im cute!

Taboo was (is) a wonderful show. It angers me that such a quality show like Taboo is gone and now we are left with Brooklyn - both ironically in the same theater. When I saw Brooklyn (yes, i hate to admit it) i couldn't help but feel sad for Taboo. It was shot down in it's prime due to unfair criticism. Why do we live in a time where clever/creative pieces of art are rejected, but brainless/generic crap (like brooklyn) accepted. I guess if we knew that answer, we would also know why we have a 2nd term of GWB. Scary world

I think it's brilliant! I particularly love what they did with the Broadway version, using the song to tie in the turmoil all of the characters were experiencing, having parts of their "mantras" of sorts fade in and out of the original song, rather than just having the song sung as is in the London version. (Love that acoustic version you made me listen to, too munkustrap. )

while i love most of the music in TABOO i did not love the show as much as everyone here. It had some major weaknesses. THe biggest weakness is that Boy George's character, Leigh, was not fleshed out at all, and the friendship between the two, while implied, was nonexistant in any scene. I heard that there were scenes written but had to be cut because of boy george's acting ability(or lack there of). I also felt(mostly due to acting on the part of boy george) that ich bin kunst into his death turned comical rather then being the outcry and destruction of a larger then life character as it should have been. Il Adore, therefor, almost made me laugh. There were some great moments though, namely Raul and Euan, and during 'Out of Fashion' the show completly took me in and captured my heart. I think if it was reworked slightly and put in a really intimate setting it would work gorgeously.

I tend to agree with Sweeedboy. I love the music, the performers are great, but the book was a bit on the weak side. It just didn't quite come together like I think it could have -- it certainly had potential. But the cast was brilliant. I have the "Tick Tick Boom" cd with Raul and really liked his voice (although I had never seen him live), but had no idea about Jeffrey Carlson and Euan Mortan -- loved them both. And I too have "Guttersnipe" on my workout playlist on my ipod.
I'm very glad that I didn't give the critics a whole lot of thought when deciding to see this show. Alas, I only saw it once, but since I live 750 miles away, that's not too bad.

The third time I saw Taboo was closing night and Rosie was talking about how even though it was closing Taboo would be back possibly as a movie. Now I am not sure how they would translate some of the scenes like in the beginning where Philip(Raul) says how he always brings "his audience" with him and Big Sue winks back at the audience but I would love to see it again. Any play were a guy gives birth to his own wife deserves a rebirth. So has anyone heard if Taboo will be reborn anytime soon.
Out of Fashion makes me cry its just amazing words cant describe it
I was at the final performace as well - it was my 15th time - and Rosie didn't say anything about making TABOO a movie. She said right before the show started, "This show will be back."
I was there the last show too, she didn't say anything about a movie, just that it wouldn't be the end and it would be back.
1116, do you think it was just the bad reviews that killed Taboo. It seemed to me each time I saw it (only 3) that the audience that was there could not possibly have cared less about the critics. I think the show had appeal for a limited group of people and that had a major impact on it's survival. Had it opened at a smaller theater, perhaps even off Broadway it probably could have run a lot longer despite what any critic had to say.
Taboo is what brought me back to Broadway and theater. I hadn't paid any attention for years (except for Rent) but that show rekindled my obssession.
I don't think it had an appeal for a limited amount of people, I just don't think it was around long enough to reach a larger audience. Look at how many people have since gotten the recording and said how wonderful it is? It should have been out LONG before the show closed. Not to mention a lot of people didn't like Rosie at the time and you'd be shocked how many people didn't want to see it because of that, it's a stupid reason but people are for the most going to be like that.
Taboo was amazing. A brilliant cast and an even more brilliant score. It should still be running. I saw it 2x, once on closing night that I will never forget!
This thread is breaking my heart. If only so many people loved Taboo this much a year ago.... sigh.
