For those who care, there's short rehearsal footage of John Doyle's production of The Rise and Fall of Mahagonny at the LA Opera House. You get too see a bit of "Opera Patti" and well normal Audra (which is still glorious as ever)

That piece is scary in general. I feel like Kurt Weill was on a bad opium trip. Well worse than normal for him. Patti looks like a drag queen in this.
I was going to say - they both look like they are doing SUGAR...
She's playing a Madam, and spent long hours coming up with her look.
It works perfectly within the context of the show.

someone passing by my desk just asked if Patti was a man!
I hope you kicked their ass!!
The Widow Begbik - whom Patti plays - is a character role, usually done by an opera singer well past her prime. It's not a challenging sing - it's more about acting.

Damn, my computer is missing a plug in, but I have NO idea which one.

Thanks, Jazzy!
Looks fantastic. Wish it would come to NY.
"someone passing by my desk just asked if Patti was a man!"
I hope you told them yes, n69n.
I think she looks more like Baby Jane Hudson starring in "Chicago."
And this only helps to solidify my old opinion that Kurt Weill is dreary, drab, dismal and dull.

It's challenging for Patti, it sits right at the top of her range. I know she's having some difficulty, but I think she sounds great!
Best- Thank you! I've been trying to figure out who Patti reminds me of for the longest time. Baby Jane!

Thanks for the preview... I'm seeing this on Sat nite-- immediately after the Virginia Woolf matinee! Will report... if I haven't slashed my wrists.
Antone who saw the most recent revival of 3Penny and survived will find Mahagonny a relative pleasure.
I'm seeing this on saturday... I hope it's good!
