re: Make Travolta Corny Collins

Maybe they'll cast Ashton as Tracy? Should you draw up the petition or would you like me to?

re: Make Travolta Corny Collins

Sorry Kitz. But I don't get the McGregor love. I've seen him on stage (twice) and in numerous films. I've always thought he was dreadful in everything. And I don't find him attractive. And I find him tiresomely arrogant in interviews. If there was one person whose career I could kill, it would be his.

And we're all talking of Travolta and his recent box office trail of disaster. As if the press will focus on that and completely ignore the fact that he starred in Grease.

Corine - you are delusional and you need at least 15 hours with your shrink this week.

People aren't going to focus on Travolta's box office failures - they will remember his singing in GREASE and his dancing in PULP FICTION and most of America will think its "hilarious" that he's appearing in a dress. Plus Hollywood loves a comeback.

He'll probably get an Oscar nomination.

re: Make Travolta Corny Collins

I love the stage play and have seen it numerous times on Broadway and on tour. I have seen Harvey, Michael, Bruce, and John Pinette and they were all very good stage Edna's. However, I don't think any of them would be able to carry it off on film. The producers need someone who can bring an audience to the film so they picked John Travolta. He was a huge film star at one point and has been nominated for an Oscar. Most people have heard of him even though his recent films have not been big hits. People have heard of Harvey, too, but I don't think middle America would go to the multiplex to see him as one of the leads in a film. I hope the film is a big hit because I want Hollywood to make more movie musicals. I also hope the stage version continues to run for years.

All I am saying is I think Harvey is perfect in the role.
He won a Tony award for it. He made the show an absolute joy.

If you were to take a poll at a movie theatre in Kansas, Michigan or New Mexico - I bet you 95 percent of the people would have never even HEARD of Harvey Firestein. He is not a name, people - not for a movie - I'm sorry.

Depends on how you phrase it, MB.

"Have you heard of Harvey Fierstein, Tony winning stage actor?" would probably get you a "nope". But if you were to say "remember the gravel voiced guy who played Jeff Goldblum's boss in Independence Day?" you MIGHT get somewhere.

I think it's safe to say that me, my immediate family, and my theatre friends are among the only people in Kansas who have heard of Harvey.

The rest would only know who he was if you told him he was one of the guys in Mrs. Doubtfire.

Speaking for those of us in MICHIGAN Michael Bennett, 95% of the population absolutely do know who Harvey is. We've all seen independence day and Mrs. Doubtfire. True, we don't get very deep movies but 'ye olde chestnuts' we have seen.

P.S. UNCLE BUCK is opening at our theatre this week. I can't wait!!

Yes Pop, but then the next question would be:

"Would you pay ten dollars to see a movie starring: the gravel voiced guy who played Jeff Goldblum's boss in Independence Day?"

And I think thats as far as the getting would go...

And BARE - I'm glad to know you personally have polled those 95 percent on Firestein's popularity in Michigan.

I love Ewan! I've never thought he's dreadful as everyone makes him out to be.

The real question is how many people in Kansas know who Jeff Goldblum is?

re: Make Travolta Corny Collins

Actually I remember most people from my school remembered him from Mrs. Doubtfire. We had a sub one time that reminded people of Harvey, and they said, "he looks like 'that guy' from Mrs. Doubtfire."
