Hey All,
I have seen alot of shows in my time, some very sad (Miss Saigon), some sad, but uplifting (Les Miz), Some amazing (Ragtime) and some okay (Fosse)... But I've never seen something that I've enjoyed more than "Mamma Mia!". I don't know why... Maybe it's because I was lucky enough to see the OBC with Karen Mason, Louise Pitre and Tina Maddigan. I just love the show! Some people say the plot is nonexsistant, but who cares? It is such fun show that has never tried to be something it isn't. Plus, Who can resist rocking out to "Dancing Queen"?
PS- I realize that the first couple responces will be sarcasim and bashes of my liking of the show, as that's the way things work here...

I like the show too, everything on Broadway dosn't have to be all serious and life changing all the time, its great fun, point blank.
that said, the fun does wear off the more you see it.

Posted: 12/15/06 at 4:42pmI have said it before regarding the film but i wish they would add a new years eve prolog with a lonely Sophie in New York. She could then sing one of ABBA:s best songs - Happy New Year, which is really a melancholy song. At that occassion she would stumble upon the guy that she want's to marry.

MAMMA MIA! was one of the best nights I ever had in the theatre. It doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not: fun and exciting and flashy and feel good. Louise Pitre gave a knock out performance.

Posted: 12/15/06 at 5:46pmI saw the tour on August 8th. Sophie was the best I've seen since Tina Maddigan. Fun and very energetic.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show. My absolute guilty pleasure.
Makes me smile just to think about it!
The original cast, Louise Pitre in particular, were incredible. I did enjoy Carolee Carmello as Donna when I saw her, though, especially during the festive 5th year anniversary performance (when she returned after having been away for a year). I wish Louise would return though I know she probably never would.

Posted: 12/15/06 at 8:10pmHaha, I've seen it more than 100 times... It hasn't worn off yet... (BTW- I was a bartender there, I have only paid for it about 25 times, and that's always standing room...) Louise was fabulous, no one can compare! But Joe Machota and Karen Mason were my personal favs from the OBC.

I agree!!! I am neutral about the show, but Carolee was incredible.
Copeman63, I think it's awesome that you started a thread for Mamma Mia though and weren't afraid of "sarcasm and bashes". Things have been snarkier than usual on the board recently, in my opinion, and good for you for proclaiming your love for a show that MIGHT be deemed less than popular on the board.

Never seen the show, but HATE the cast recording.
Ditto. Still want to see the show, though.

Sorry. The best thing about Mamma Mia was Joe.
He was Tina's love interest in the original cast. He was the best part of Mamma Mia!

Posted: 12/16/06 at 6:33amI absolutely LOVE this show !!!! Mamma Mia and Hairspray are the most happy, enjoyable, FUN times I ever had in a theater and that is a big deal for me !!!!!

Really? You thought the best thing was Joe? I mean, he's definitely good, and *extremely* nice to look at....But I saw the original cast ten times and his performance was exactly the same every single time. Exactly. Louise and Tina, for example, were slightly different each time, not always saying the lines with the exact same intonations, singing a bit differently, etc. - but he was just.....the same. And a bit stiff at times, too - by no means really bad, just...okay. His role was kinda thankless, though.
I will say that he is SUCH a great guy and so sweet to his fans. So in the end, I do like him a lot.

Posted: 12/16/06 at 1:24pmCorine, are you f-ing kidding us about Joe? He is always recognized as the weak link in the original cast. Oh, besides Karen Mason, I mean.

Posted: 12/16/06 at 1:43pmThe tour is great. Donna (Laurie Wells) and Sam (Sean Allan Krill) are excellent!

Posted: 12/16/06 at 5:10pmThe weakest link? WTF? They asked him to come back for a third year. They've only asked one other person to do that recently. Joe's performances were always consistent. Is that a bad thing? Tina on the other hand was all over the place, but that's the girl with golden hair.

Yeah, I think you are both wrong about Joe. I'd agree that he didn't offer a totally different version of Sky each show, but Judy Kaye was the same way. Something is to be said of being consistant.
And Karen Mason bashing? Oh no... IMO she was the best Tanya, ever. (And keep in mind, that I've seen many, including Judy.) Not many people consider an actrss capable of being the standby for Glenn Close a "weak link"...
Phantom- There was one night where Tina forgot to come in on "Lay All Your Love On Me", and the orchestra had to pause until it clicked, haha! Def. a Tina moment...

Posted: 1/2/07 at 4:28pmI just got back from seeing Mamma Mia in Chicago. If anyone has seen the touring cast or has the opportunity to before March 4th, Laurie Wells, who plays Donna, is incredible. She's easily the best actress in the show and she's got an awesome voice. My friend just put up a fan site for Laurie. Check it out at www.laurie-wells.com (sorry, haven't figured out how to link yet).
