I LOVED Wicked...I LOVE musicals with catchy songs... Will I Like Mamma Mia? My friend wants to go...
Someone I know who saw a tour of it said the storyline was crummy but the music was good. Are you an ABBA fan? If you are an ABBA fan, you might enjoy it more. You won't know for sure if you yourself like it until you actually see the show.
I think the only ABBA song I know is Dancing Queen

i personally LOVED it. the storyline was stupid, but the music and acting was great. the actors made the most of what they had to work with. it was SUCH a fun show.

I would probably like it because I love a lot of ABBA songs. This is probably why I like the movie "Muriel's Wedding" so much.
Its bubbly and sloppy at parts (ie some of the songs are way out of place) but overall, its a good show. Very upbeat.
ok...I don't care about a crummy story line.. I don't want "DEEP" when I go to a show.. I want to have fun and hear catchy tunes.. every now and then see a little dancing and pretty sets so I guess that's a yes for Me and Mamma Mia...
If you want a fun show, see 42nd Street. The dancing is great. I also found the songs catchy, but others may say otherwise. If you go, though, go after August 8th because I heard Shirley Jones sucks in the part.
Mamma Mia... I saw it twice, which quite honestly... for me was more than enough. It's a lot of fun, but really, REALLY shallow. The story is kind of silly, but you laugh about it. It's flashy, with catchy music (if you like ABBA, that is) and some cool dance scenes. I'd say go see it... it's not too deep, but it's good for a night of fun.

yeah it is a lot of fun. the finale is like the best part.
I think the music is VERY catchy. If it were aloud, i think more than half the audience would burst out singing. The sets aren't that elaborate though. It's simple, but it doesnt look cheap. If i remmeber correctly, there is only one BIG set piece...and that is the house that turns into a hotel, bedroom, and dance club. Just go see it without any expectations but to have fun.

yeah the set isn't the complex.
Luv - thanks... That's what I want.. A night of fun...and
Millie - I think 42nd st will be my next one...
THANKS!
Mamma Mia is certainly a fun night, but don't expect anything deep or thought provoking (other than how will these pop songs work in the "thin" story line....
KMF - Don't worry.. I don't usually like Deep and thought provoking plays... I pay money to see a show that I can have fun at and smile or cry...
I have enough deep issues to deal with that have to do with sadness and illness (family member battling cancer) so I would rather see something that will make me forget real life issues!
You don't have to know ABBA to like Mamma Mia, its really just a good, fun show with little to it other than pop tunes that will be stuck in your head. I battled "Gimme Gimme Gimme" for three days after seeing it.
Mamma Mia is tons of fun. If you like ABBA, it's even better. 42nd Street is excellent for the good old-fashioned tap dancing spectacular. And Shirley Jones did not suck in the part. I loved both shows.
"A mother, a daughter, 3 possibile dads and a trip down the aisle you'll never forget!" How could this be a bad storyline?! lol
This show was so much fun! Saw it a couple of years ago and then my youngest wanted to see it for her 15th b-day. This is a check your brain at the door and just have a blast dancing in the aisles!
Oh I love this show. It's lacking complexity as you've heard but it's so fun. Just promise me that if you go, you'll get up and dance at the end. Where are you seeing it?

This is a show where we can really not tell you if you would like it or not. Some love it, some hate it.
I absolutely hated it. I really enjoy Wicked, but my two other favorite shows are Urinetown and Gypsy- take that as you will.

Its not the best theatrical production in the world, but I thought it was fun. It really did have people dancing in the aisles afterwards. The tunes are catchy. Certianly not worthy of any big dramatic praise, but overall and entertaining show.
If you like the music by Abba, you will like it. It has a cute story line. I found the scenery to be a little lacking, (really the same background throughout the show, but it is happy and upbeat. People were dancing in the aisles.
"You don't have to know ABBA to like Mamma Mia..."
True. But it does help when you are an obsessive fan. =)
