If this turns out to be true, good for him! I know that a fair amount of people are skeptical of the idea of him in this show, but I suspect that it would work really well.

I don't get the "fangirl" whoo-haw over Manoel. I mean, sure, he's good, but what else has he done to merit such "fangirl"-ness? Raul, I understand. Menzel, I get. But him, not so much. I know he was in BKYLN, but I hope - I hope! - that people aren't obsessed with him over that horrible show.
But anyways, I'm sure it will be great. This is one of my favorite scores, if not my favorite. I wish it would get recorded, but alas...it won't.

"Some of the comments/messages left on Mano's myspace while he was in Sweeney, were from some of the scariest most over obsessive comments made by teen girls."
I agree. Those comments disturbed me...

...wha were the scary comments?
"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too."

Just look on his myspace comments and you'll see.

Mano's scariest myspacer...Erm, I'm just going to say it. It's someone who's name starts with an SK. She leaves the weirdest craziest longest comments on a lot of the Sweeney guys' pages.
I had to sit next to her once at Sweeney. I wanted to kick her in the head after two minutes of hearing her chatter with everyone sitting within a 5 seat radius of her. Such a weirdo.

Well, I certainly hope that the comments left by people who have some level of personal rapport with Mano aren't misconstrued as fangirly out of context. =P

I'll definitely try to get down to LA to see this if it's true.

Man, I was hoping that it would be Neil Patrick Harris (I heard that he wanted the role, anyway.) :/
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I was also hoping for Neil Patrick Harris, that would've made me head to LA.
tobiasragg, I know it sounds like a different type of casting, but his "Finishing the Hat" in the Wall to Wall Sondheim recording is priceless, very well-sung and nuanced. I don't doubt he'd have made a sublime George.

As a charter Reprise subscriber I can assure you there will be no screaming girls at "Sunday". The average age of the Reprise theatregoer is 70...a vast majority of patrons are senior citizens and the rest are middle-aged jewish couples. There is a sizeable minority of middle-aged gay men but it's definitely not a young crowd.
As for this being a trial for O'Hara and Felciano....The Sunday production that is going to NYC is a London production which I happenned to catch in London. I'm not sure how much say the producers (which i believe will be the Roundabout in conjunction with Menier) will have in pushing Sam Buntrock, the director, to hire THEIR choice.
As much as I love Kelli O'Hara, her interpretation of Dot would be much different than that of Jenna Russell- their vocal qualities are different and Jenna is very earthy in a way that Kelli just isn't. As for Manoel, he would probably get closer to Daniel Evans' interpretation of George because he has that intellectual but immature quality that George had in the London revival.
I think that Kelli will do an amazing job in the role in LA- and I'm sure she could get a Tony if she did the role on Broadway. I just don't see her fitting Sam Buntrock's idea of Dot. I absolutely loved the London revival but I am sure Jason Alexander will bring his own vision to the work which will be enjoyable and thought provoking as well.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

I'm with Spork and ray, Neil Patrick Harris's Finishing the Hat is beautiful and one of the best I've heard. I'd love to see him do the full role, but unfortunately I don't think he'll doing theatre for awhile. :-/

I might need to plan a business trip to L.A. :) I'm sure trusty Goldstar will have a half price offer too.

Yay Mano. This may be the only thing in the world that will tempt me into driving down to LA. I see some long roadtrips in my near future, lol.
