From Playbill.com:
"The Daily Mail newspaper reports that the English musical theatre star Maria Friedman has cancelled plans to do Gypsy in Dallas.
The run was seen by many industry-watchers as a way of boosting her U.S. reputation ahead the Broadway run of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman In White, for which she starts rehearsals mid-September. However, says the Mail, Friedman’s representatives didn’t like things they were hearing about the Gypsy producer Tony Georges."
Congrats to Maria. She is an excellent performer and I'm glad she'll finally be coming to Broadway.

A shame about Gypsy, but I'm glad to see the news is official about her going into WiW in New York. I saw her final matinee last weekend, and she was excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing her reprise the role in New York.
Now, if we could only get more definitive word about the REST of the cast!!!
This company isn't having much luck, are they? First Sweeney not Gypsy.
I quite like Tony Georges' take on SWEENEY TODD:
"It's a show about a barber....Say, THERE'S a role for my hairdresser! And my mother can play the Beggar Woman because she's always broke!"
Is this old news? Here leading man is rumored to be Mandy Patinkin. :)
No this isn't old news. Everything up until now was rumor.
I just meant is the Mandy part old news...I don't know if it's been discussed before. :)
Patinkin has a series coming out in the Fall, right? He couldn't do both.
I am not sure what else he is doing (not really a fan). I just heard that from someone cast in the ensemble.
Mandy Patinkin's name has come up before, but it was, and still is, speculation. Considering he has a new tv series coming out in the fall, one has to wonder if he's still being considered.
It's on CBS I think. Previews for it are on all the time. I'm pretty sure it is a rumor.

It is on CBS and I believe (according to his website) it's scheduled to debut on October 8th. Doesn't seem likely that he'd be rehearsing WIW in New York in mid-September.
Well Dallas is pretty far away from Odessa, but I digress. Glad to hear Friedman's name in the press and I can't wait to see her in Woman in White again. She is extraordinary. Did anyone else see the televised British concert of RAGTIME? She is superb on it.

I was able to talk to Angela Christian after seeing the last matinee on the 9th, and she said she IS going with the show to Broadway! The only other person I talked to (about going to Broadway),was Maria Friedman who said she was and she was very excited about it!
Brava! I can't wait to see her mesmerizing performance again.

The last news update from the official site of RUG said the show could open either late this year or early next year, due to casting issues. If it is going to be a November opening ( and October previews), shouldn't they be announcing the cast soon ( and start selling tickets) and getting ready for rehearsals ?
YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG IM SO EXCITED IM GONNA GO SCREAM!!!!!!
maria is outstanding...she was the narrator in the film version of "joseph.."
Never liked Maria in the film version of Joseph (too many "cute" faces), but I've liked her on all the cast recordings I've heard. I'm happy for her!
