I don't know if he wrote his own lines or what, but he was hilarious!!!
"Fair-weather friends are more fun to be around"
"A musical is only as good as its director, much like the CIA"
"Directing a musical is not easy, but if you cast it right, there's usually someone in the chorus who is"

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:20amI smelled the gifted and talented, the lovely and bearish Mr. Bruce Vilanch all the hell over those lines!

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:21amI think some of those were improved. You could tell because for parts of it he was looking straight into the camera, then other times he was staring at the audience for awhile.

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:24amMarty's a pro. But I'd bet dollars to Krispy Kremes it was Bruce. I know my Brucey when I hear him.

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:27amIf it was truly Bruce, then why weren't any of the other presenters that funny? Did he ONLY help write Martin's monologue?

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:35amTake one genius comedy writer and one gifted comedy pro and you get an excellent combo that comes off better than anybody else. For instance, the best writer in the world would come off sounding crappy if his work was delivered by Billy "Movin' All Over the Road" Joel.

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:41amI adore Nathan, but thought he did NOT come off nearly as well. His scripted shtick sucked. He would have been better off improvising.

That's very true.
And you know Nathan was.

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:46amI just realized that those Sarah-Nathan lines being scripted means that her thing with Hugh was definitely planned.

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:52amWhy not? Do you think Bruce came up with those lines between the event and the duo coming onstage?

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:52amI said something in the chat when he came on lololol... "Martin Short looks like a -----fill in the blank" :)

Posted: 6/7/04 at 1:56amFF, no, I don't think Bruce wrote that. I think Hugh just has the improv for that part down and SJess did her SJess thing that she does so well.
