Posted: 2/23/06 at 2:13pmI would love for her to have a major lead role. Something by LaChiusa or Finn. That would make my LIFE!

Her "There Will Be a Miracle" from See What I Wanna See is perfection.
My favorite Testa song performances have to be "All Fall Down" featured on the Infinite Joy concert disc and her heartbreaking "I Am Wearing a Hat" from In Trousers.

oh, my god- her on the end of all fall down is like witnessing the birth of Christ!!
I didn't get to see SWIWS, but I will by the recording for her alone.

Posted: 2/23/06 at 2:51pmMy favorite Mary Testa moment was her singing "The Red Spy Queen" from a reading of Brian Lowdermilk's musical "Red". It had sort of a bumpta-bumpta-bumpta-bumpta rythm and she just started swaying and dancing and it cracked me up. I love her hair.

Posted: 2/23/06 at 4:19pmI saw her in "See what I wanna see" and although, the show was dreadful, the entire cast was very talented. I wouldn't call her god. But to each their own. Maria Friedman is god! well...i have a long list of gods. LOL

Posted: 2/23/06 at 4:25pmTesta's performance as Lorena Hickok in LaChiusa's FIRST LADY SUITE a couple of seasons ago was one of the greatest I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. A complete and total acting and vocal tour de force.

Posted: 2/23/06 at 4:33pmI've seen her in 42nd Street and See What I Wanna See and she was amazing in both. Just got an email that my SWIWS cast recording was shipped so I am super excited.

Too bad she doesn't have a glimmer of warmth about her, which the greatest female clowns from Fanny Brice to Lucille Ball always had in abundance. For that reason, she will remain a fringe element favorite.

Her performance in "See What I Wanna See" was brilliant - such a BEAUTIFUL versatile voice - and she definitely has warmth. that character could easily have been one color (icy BLUE), but she infused it with some subtle warmth that made it unforgettable.
I really think she is under-used and underrated

toomeytwopiece, I couldn't agree more about Testa's character development in "See What I Wanna See". I thought it was utter perfection the way she handled Aunt Monica, and it brought me near tears when I saw the show. That's a rare occurrence for me.
As for her being God. Yes, it's true.

EnchantedHunter, I declare you king/queen of the broad/generalized statement.
I think Testa is quite a warm performer. And was very nice when I met her briefly before First Lady Suite.

Oh, having worked with her for years, I can honestly say she's a perfectly fine person. Nonetheless, onstage she exudes not the slightest amount of 'simpatico.' Sad, but true.
