Rush is only Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You may get lucky and be able to snag some tickets the day of. I know of people that have done that, but they were full price/premium seats.
The show is really incredible and deserves all the hype. I hope it works out for you.

Posted: 4/17/13 at 1:50pmI wouldn't be surprised if, given the multiple entrances/exits that use the aisles, SRO isn't offered for Matilda.

While it is true that there are enterances and exits that happen in the aisles, the actors generally walk down the middle and off to one side or another and exit that way. I don't think that there being SRO would be an issue. Furthermore, I am not saying that Matilda does this, but, there are other shows that have actors walk in through the back that still offered standing room.

Matilda is extremely worth it. The show itself justifies the prices. It is dark, funny, and sophisticated. I am a college student who grew up reading Dahl and it brought me back to my childhood, causing me to confront my ever-present feelings about growing up. It has been affecting people in many different ways, showing the grand scope of the piece. It is a deeply moving production and the most entertaining new show to hit Broadway since the Book of Mormon. Do yourself a favor and get a ticket.

Everyone's opinion is going to be different. Take a look at the Matilda threads for a more comprehensive look at opinions -- they range from LOVE IT/ITS THE BEST all the way down to HATED IT. I'm in the middle.
Other shows to reccommend? Pippin & Once top my list of what to reccommend. Of course, each of those shows have their fans and detractors as well.

Posted: 4/18/13 at 9:42amHaving seen both Pippin and Matilda, I'd say Pippin is a better production-and more special. I think both may tour, however, the cast for Pippin is really incredible and I think there's a certain chemistry they have which makes the show quite magical. It's the best production of a musical that I've seen this season. I say go for Pippin-Matilda will strike out on tour VERY fast I predict-and you likely won't miss much by not seeing it on Broadway.

Posted: 4/18/13 at 10:17amMatilda does not currently offer standing room, and the production team does not want anyone in the back of the theatre except the two ushers that work the floor and any necessary production staff. With the amount of exits and entrances, some at running speeds, it is extremely unlikely that they will offer standing room for this production.
