Go see it with Christine-they'll give you an exchange.

I think it's a win-win situation.I saw Maureen a few weeks ago and I thought she was fantastic. She has a different approach to the role. Of course, Christine is amazing, but I don't htink you can go wrong either way.

I saw Maureen. She was terrific. Though I've never seen Christine in the role so I can't compare the two.

Christine Ebersole's vacation dates are Tuesday, March 20, Tuesday, March 27 and April 3rd through the 8th. GREY GARDENS was gonna be my Crowned Jewel of the week! But reading these replies have made me feel much better.

Well we could debate this all night, but I'm going to say if this is your chance to see it, don't give it up.

I'm going to be in town April 2nd through the 6th, so I'd just have to do a quick weekend trip in the future. Your posts are really bumming me out, bwaygal! I do hate to whine when someone's out, but my heart did sink, I'm not gonna lie.
EDIT:
Don't worry dancingthrulife - No way I'm giving it up. I've been fascinated with that documentary for awhile, so I know I'll still love it!

I personally would make a trip to catch Christine. It's fairly rare for Maureen to get to go on, and I don't she should be missed. Neither should Christine, but I'm just saying.

This is why it's dangerous to further the myth that no one but Ebersole can play the role. It's not even close to the truth as proven by many posts here - including a few on this very thread - and will be the reason the show closes when she leaves, which should NOT happen.

I wrote almost that exact same thing in my review of yesterday's show, Rath. Christine took my breath away, but I am sure there are other people who can pull off that role, but it's Christine's name that is pulling them in. I thought the show was wonderful, but I can't see it lasting too much longer after she leaves, and it's a real shame. Just my thoughts.

It's not Christine's "name" - she's not a big enough star outside of the theater. It's the HYPE surrounding her. And it's going to backfire big time.

Christine Ebersole was AMAZING in this show but Maureen Moore has been so fantastic in other shows. I'm sure she's terrific.

Shoot, I LOVED Christine in GG, but if I was in NY right now I'd rush to buy a ticket for any of the night's Maureen's scheduled to play...

I don't think Christine is the only person who could play the role. I went to see Maureen the first time she went on out of curiousity about her performance and was so impressed with her performance that I went two more times specifically to see her perform. While I am interested to see Christine I will definately be there again the week that she is out to see Maureen again.

You saw Maureen in the role three times but you have never seen Christine?

Yeah I'll see Christine eventually but I was never interested in seeing the show as I was in seeing Maureen perform.

I've seen Christine three times and I am ready to see Maureen do it. I might just have to buy tickets for when she is on. I would love to see her approach.
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

I've seen it many times, but never without Christine Ebersole. I can't bring myself to do that. It's just my personal preference. IMO-There really is something special about her in those roles. People I know who've seen Moore say this, too. (She's good, but doesn't have the firm connection with the characters that Christine Ebersole does.)
