Mel VS Dolly

I know MEl Brooks did everything wrong when bringing in YF .High ticket prices,lots of hype,no group sales,pissed off Paul LIBBEN,didnt post numbers etc . So i though he was treated accordingly . Honestly what did Dolly do to deserve such a a cold shoulder. There was next to no hype on the show ,She seemed to follow the correct protocol !! So why the red headed step child treatment ?? And please don't say the show sucks .Ive done 100s of broadway shows that werent as good as this ,some even won a tony Titanic (no offence meant it was a decent show with a great score ) And please know i dont care about spelling and grammar ,SO all you english freaks who have nothing better to offer know i dont care !!

I totally agree. I don't understand why people are attacking Dolly and 9 to 5. I loved the show and Dolly has done nothing but be supportive of it. I feel like 9 to 5 is run by a bunch of really nice people who just want theatre goers to have a good time. during previews they were offering some really great discounts on tickets, and they have general rush and ticket prices in general are pretty good.

I was sitting in the box office for rush a few weeks ago and someone came in to buy a regular ticket and the guy in the box office asked her if she wanted to use the discount code, which she didn't even know existed. Everyone at 9 to 5 is very nice.

and besides that I personally feel like any 9 to 5 "hype" was met by a great show. I was also very excited for Young Frankenstein and I liked that show a lot but the whole ticket pricing thing was upsetting.

and yeah I know, I know I'm practically on a crusade for 9 to 5 but I feel someone needs to be standing up for this show

There was next to no hype on the show

I remember TONS of hype ever since it was announced the musical was being produced especially since Dolly was writing the score. Did it receive as much hype as Billy Elliot? No, because Billy Elliot was already an established award-winning hit in London and 9 to 5 hadn't yet gained a reputation other than the tryout which was mixed-to-positive.

Dolly was nominated for her score, which was her contribution to the show. Not sure how that is interpreted as getting the "cold shoulder". She's not the producer or director and she didn't write the book. She's a high-profile celebrity who starred in the original film, but her direct involvement with the musical stops at the score. The media is trying to somehow rest the entire production on her shoulders, but only because her name gets attention.

Young Frankenstein (Brooks' fifth Broadway outing) was written, composed and produced by Mel Brooks as was The Producers. This is Dolly's first experience with Broadway. It's not a fair comparison.

The reason why Dolly is getting this treatment is because she's someone famous and new to the theatre community.

Yeah, it sucks when a celebrity gets a Tony nomination for their score. Otherwise, I see Dolly being treated like every other Broadway composer except perhaps Sondheim, who could write a dirge using only one note of the scale and most of the musical theatre elite would writhe in ecstasy.

Are people being rude to Dolly Parton on BWW? Did I miss something the past few months?

I haven't seen 9 to 5 yet, so I can't comment on how good it was/ if it deserved to be snubbed.
However, I do think Dolly has been really supportive of Broadway and used her celebrity to bring a lot of people to theater, which I think is really great.

I'm sorry, did an entity called broadwayrocks2 imply the name "PalJoey" isn't "original?"

Lets face it, Broadway and the Tony committee just hate, hate, HATE popular country music entertainers. Just look at the reception Roger Miller received.
