Melissa Etheridge Joins MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET 6/23

I got all excited and then saw it was only for one performance.

But, WOW!

COULD mean? It played to 38% gross houses last week and it's not even been running 3 months yet.

I've not seen and will never see the show; what's the physical production and cast size like? I can't see the show lasting with figures like that.

The cast is six people. I don't believe there any musicians because the actors play instruments on stage, but I'm not positive about that.

The set is a single set that does not change until the finale, when it turns into a concert stage (pretty much just through flashing lights).

It almost definitely has much lower-than-average running costs.

there are 2 extra musicians ( bass & drums) who play minor parts in the show . this production does not take a lot of money to put on so i could see it lasting longer than people think. this was a lower week than usual but if you look at the grosses nothing has really been doing well

What a clever idea. The show could have a guest star every month and switch from no sells to sell outs. I commend whoever is thinking "outside the proscenium" in that production company.

I saw this last time I was in NYC and really enjoyed it-I didn't know much about it, and was blown away by the talent of the cast. Each of the four principals--who are playing Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash--are excellent musicians. And they're not just doing impersonations--they can act quite well, too.

It sounds from the press release that Etheridge is only coming in to play one song in the finale--if I'm reading this correctly, she's not actually stepping in and taking over the one female role in the show, which is played by Elizabeth Stanley. That makes more sense to me as I can't see Etheridge learning the lines, blocking, etc just for one night. It's not a huge part but she is onstage for most of the show, and she sings at least two songs.
