Excellent take on the situation.
I really think it is below the belt when certain individuals find it necessary to go after family members or husbands,wives or partners. Just when you think they cannot go any lower they do. Than they crawl back under the rock from whence they came.
I really feel sorry for them. By the way, a friend of mine says many on the board think I am not married. I really do not care what these people think. I have been happily married for 17 years to the most wonderful woman imaginable. We have traveled all over and have great memories. If the world does not blow up, we will use a small nest egg to make a few last trips instead of going to Broadway more. We are totally happy with this decision. I would not change my life for anyone's on this board.

I have "A Director" blocked so I did not read his/her/its posts here. No, I didn't even read them while making this post. However, I realize that he/she/it suffers from psychological issues and venting them here is much cheaper and quicker than seeking treatment, so I ignore the whole thing. Let those people (and there are many here) have instant relief, if only for that instant.

That's it in a nutshell. It has nothing to do with age. The pathology exhibited in the above quote is ageless. Living in memories has its own DSM code. But no, I don't expect After Eight to embrace that, not without years of psychoanalysis at least.

As time passes, things change.
When things change, something is always gained, and something is always lost.
It's perfectly natural and fine and good for those who have experienced that change to think about the gain, the loss, or both.
That's really all there is to it.

This is a very personal thread as each shares their own take on aging-whatever their age now.
I am a 70yo male and thanks to genetics and exercise look younger[first thing in the morning you wouldn't think so].
I love to look back and remember times past and am still able to chat with my 96yo Mother as she shares memories from her era.
I am intolerant of many things that this generation grew up with-technology,lack of manners/respect/language/tolerance BUT occasionally when a young person actually smiles and treats you/me as an 'equal' I am actually on a high and feel all is right with the world.
I don't/can't see as much theatre as I used to so my pleasure now is reading all about it and getting here all your responses/reactions to things I will never see.
The shows from the past belong just there-a memory to me, unknown to most.
Today will be tomorrows' memory it's up to me/us/you what we do with it.

My wife and I smile when a younger person gives up their seat for us on the subway. I smile and thank them. I guess the grey hair is what gives it away.
Would we like to see more theater? Yes. We agree that even if we were still working we would not pay what we both feel to be absurd prices. If others have the financial means to do it and are not bothered by them, fine. We are sorry it affects us but that is life. Time marches on.Like Sweet, we still have our memories and each other

Back when? A 30 year old can live in their memories just as much as a 70 year old. Age is just a state of mind. I had the sense you treated it that way, but here you are being reverse-ageist on me. 
@Sweetlips: That's great and sounds healthy. It sounds like you appreciate your memories without wallowing in them. Pity that everyone can't.

Packing as we type to move house- [want to help-anyone !]-bitch of a job but the garage sale made enough to pay for the move--sold over 1000 !!!! DVDs.
Off to Thailand for 3 weeks to recover--Mum will be in respite so she will be looked after, brother-in-law dying of cancer ,I've had a double bypass at 40 plus 6 stents and still going strong so nothing to complain about here.
Off now to do my volunteer work-3 mornings a week-then a weekly[paid] cleaning job[cleaning office toilets-must remember to take a drill to make that glory hole[bigger] !!]--see--I'm NOT a Saint, though Saint SweetLips has a nice ring to it-anyone got a direct line to the Pope?

Sorry to hear re your brother in law.Many on this board think a tough time in life is not being able to get rush tickets to a stupid show. They are ill prepared for all the crap life will throw at them

Trying to be more clear for Hogan.
If you're only 30, and perhaps started going to theater as early as 10 or 15, you've more or less seen modern day culture as most of your experience. I'm talking about folks who grew up with music and theater which are generations old by now.
I don't like to be jerked around either.
