I'm buying tickets for my girlfriend and I. Our favorite playwright is Tennessee Williams and I'm deciding whether to see "Glass Menagerie" or "A Streetcar Named Desire". Can anyone give us an opinion? Thanks.

I'd go with Menagerie. But that's just me.

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

Streetcar. Or, join hiptix, get cheap STREETCAR tickets, and see MENAGERIE too!

I'm seeing both, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd go with GLASS MENAGERIE.

Streetcar - gotta see how John C. Reilly does Stanley.

I think John is going to be an incredible Stanley, and just imagine what Natasha is going to do with Blanche.

If you absolutely can only see one or the other, I'd definitely go with Streetcar. I'm expecting Natasha Richardson to be nothing short of spectacular as Blanche.

Yeah, but Jessica as Amanda. I would pay money to see Jessica Lange sneeze, let alone take on one of the best written roles in the history of theatre.

I am not a fan of Jassica Lange when she does Williams. I've seen her do Maggie in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Blanch in Streetcar and I found that she was annoyingly overdramatic (even for Williams) in both roles, so I must caution you against Glass Managerie even though I haven't seen it.

I am, on the other hand, SO EXCITED about the Streetcar revival. Though I have to admit that like a lot of other people, I see Riley as more of a Mitch than a Stanley, I am still going to give him a chance as he is one very talented guy.

I thought Jessica was a brilliant Blanche, although it was true about her lack of projection. I had to see it twice just to fully hear her performance. I like her Maggie very much. She was also amazing in the West End production of LONG DAY'S JOURNEY.

I'd see Menagerie not because of Jessica Lange (I'm one of the few people who doesn't really know what she's famous for) -- but rather to see the AMAZING Dallas Roberts as well as David Leveaux's direction. Chances are you will discover new things about this play with Leveaux helming it.

Jessica Lange is a two-time Academy Award winner, for TOOTSIE and her tour-de-force performance in BLUE SKY. She has starred in many films and on stage in both New York and London, and is married to the playwright and sometimes actor Sam Shepard.

If you want to see both and are getting your tickets at the half price booth, I would see whichever show I could get the best seats for. You might even want to do that now if you are buying your tickets online or over the phone--see which show you can get the best seats for, on the date you wish to attend and use that as part of your decision.

Other than that, all things considered equal, I would highly recommend that you see

I would doubt that STREETCAR would be on TKTS right away, given the cast and Roundabout's heavy subscription. Usually, I have found that it takes a couple weeks before Roundabout shows go on the ticket line.

Hmmm... Both productions seem to have their pros and cons... I'm thinking that we'll see "Menagerie", but if I have the opportunity to see both, I will take advantage of it. Thanks a lot.
