Mereb

Hi!

Next week my school is gonna start an amateur production of Aida, and I'm wondering if I can audition for Mereb, since I can't do Radames.

I'm a dramatic tenor, I've made Lefou in B&B, Peter in JCS. What do I need to be Mereb?

What exactly are you trying to ask? I'm confused by the question "What do I need to be Mereb?" I guess my answer is "a good audition." I don't know, clarify, please?

I mean what tesiture is, is it a comic character, does it need an specific level of singing, dance, acting?

And what can I audition with? I mean, a song.

Actually I got the CD and it's on of my favorite musicals, is just that everyone in my school that don't have the profile for being Radames wants Mereb.

I want to make sure my audition is different, that directors can see I can do that role for sure by choosin the right song for the audition and knowing things about the character that are not obvious. I'm thinking 'bout the "crush" you said with Aida, that can be interesting.

I see Merb as both a comedic and a dramatic role. He has some funny one-liners that are capable of getting laughs if done correctly and he has some heavy scene work with Aida. His songs are important because you need a touch of pop, but also a bit of reality to make it convincing. He knows the truth, but he has to be very cautious. His death scene can be tricky as it can be very poor if not done correctly because the writing for that scene is a little off. The key is to make it real. If you can convince someone that they're seeing real life on stage then you've done your job.

I'm white and have played Mereb.

Go look up some of the videos of this show on Youtube...It seems like he's white or Latino in 9/10 of them...

I know when my school did Aida, he was Hawaiian.
