Met Opera: Jeanine Tesori commission, LCT & Public collaborations, and more

A few Broadway-related highlights from the recent Metropolitan Opera article in the NYTimes. This all sounds exciting!

– The Met's first two commissions by women: Jeanine Tesori's "Grounded" and Missy Mazzoli's "Lincoln in the Bardo"!

– Summer 2020 collaboration with the Public Theater: a new, abridged English-language version of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at Shakespeare in the Park, directed by Lear deBessonet and featuring the Met Orchestra. I wonder if it will be one of the two main productions or a special offering like Public Works? It would be nice if it ran for a few weeks!

– Two operas adapted from recent plays: In the 2021-2022 season, Sarah Ruhl and Matthew Aucoin's “Eurydice” (based on her play) will premiere at the Met. And Andre Bishop says Ricky Ian Gordon & Lynn Nottage's "Intimate Apparel" opera, developed in collaboration with the Met, will open next season at LCT's Mitzi Newhouse Theatre. (I think I read somewhere else that Bartlett Sher was directing the "Intimate Apparel" opera at LCT?)

– Several Ivo Van Hove productions at the Met

– No further mention of Bartlett Sher's 2019-2020 production of "Porgy and Bess" starring Eric Owens
