People said he was back the 17th and since then, on 3 different days I have spoken to people who saw those performances and all 3 said he wasn't there, including the time I went. I understnad he is sick and do hope he gets better. But people are EXPECTING a highly advertised performer to be in as they should be.
I am not holding it against him, illness is not something we have power over and it is unfortunate. But when can they replace him? Like if this keeps up for a month longer, I really hope we get someone who isn't sick.
Although, the understudies are very good. I saw Norman and wish he was full-time Fosco

Posted: 1/26/06 at 3:59pmThe "fosco flu" so to speak is a perfectly logical curse. Wearing that heavy of a fat suit, the amount of liquid and electrolytes the body loses each performance just from sweating is enough to not only get a person ill, but prevent them from recovering. It's essentially what happened to Crawford. He got a flu from the heavy sweating the suit caused and was unable to ever return for long because the suit would re-drain him of fluids, thus making him succeptible to illness again. They really need to figure a better option for that suit if they really ever plan on having a fosco for a long period of time.

I believe you are right on the money,Theaterboy. It would be a shame if Michael B. has the same problem that Michael C. had, but it sure sounds like it. With Michael C.---according to what he said in an interview---it was more than just getting sick again. His immune system was so messed up for a time that he developed "Post-Viral"... "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."
Some of the Foscos in London played the role without the fat-suit, but it looks like neither Michael was willing to do that.

I do believe the only Fosco that played without the fatsuit was Simon Callow and he didn't sing much if at all.

Still not back........
He must be so sick.....I feel badly for him, and for everyone (including me) who traveled to see the show specifically because he was in it. A disappointment to a lot of people.

Michael was out on Sunday 3 pm show. Actually there were 5 understudies on. Maria was in and was amazing.
I don't think even if Michael and the full cast were in that I would have liked this show. While the performers were EXCELLENT, the score and the book just did not do it for me. The people I were there with Hated the screens. I was not a fan of them and felt that all of the movement shouted hey look at me look what I can do. Just did not enjoy the show.

Posted: 1/30/06 at 10:02amI have said all along this is a love it or hate it kind of show. Being one of those that love it I am sorry you did not care for it. If Michael Ball had been in it would have helped a bit because his two big numbers really are show stoppers. And yes Maria is truly amazing. She is my new favorite theatre star. I really like the projections too. But like I said love it or hate it.
