Hi...I'm new here and I've got a simple question. Why is there this running comment that Michael Ball is gay? I'm a rather new fan, and although it's not a big deal to me if he's straight OR gay, I wonder how these rumors get started. As far as I know he's been with the same lady for quite a long time, and I can find nothing about him being gay.
I have heard that he has a rather "rich" vocabulary at times. Makes me wonder how he watched his language around the children during his gig in Chitty.

Michael doesn't discuss his orientation but it's something fellow actors and others in the theatre world are aware of. I guess many of his fans are too, although fan clubs don't usually refer to these things. It heightens the honor Michael is being given in SLC, that the Mormons are respecting him. Whatever orientation should make no difference but as we all know, that doesn't always happen. Good luck to Michael.

Thank you to all who offered help with hotel info in SLC, it was all greatly appreciated.
Just curious, Maestro, if Michael Ball's being gay is a well kept secret among most folk outside the theatre world, how do we know what the Mormons know about Michael's sexual preferences? How do we know the Mormons know anything at all?
I do agree with you, however, if they do know something that is 'not generally known', then this award of the 'key to the city' must be a first.
I also wish Michael all the best...I love Michael's voice, I could care less about Michael's private life.

I am just glad he is finally doing concerts here. The performance with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is just an added bonus for him and his new and old fans. I wish him well

I'm waiting until I have my tickets to the concert confirmed. Then I'll hit "buy" so fast they won't know what hit them. ![]()
I'm so glad to hear there will be others from the board there. Maybe we could meet and say "Hello" at the concert.

You might want to reconsider that idea. People are booking up hotels fast and furious. We can chat elsewhere if you desire.

"The Temple Square is an intersting place to visit as is the home of Bringham Young. A number of areas in Temple Square are restricted to members of the Church of the Latter Day Saints aka the Mormons."
LDS Temples are considered sacred to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Therefore, those who are not members are invited to attend a open house for a short time after each temple is built. On Temple Square the Salt Lake Temple is the only place that is "restricted." The home of Brigham Young IS an interesting place to visit as well as many other historic buildings nearby. For more information, go to www.lds.org or www.mormons.org.
"The Family Researchy Center occupies a multi-story building only a block or two from Temple Square. It's easy to lose oneself for hours doing geneology research and the folks who staff the library are extremely friendly and helpful."
That's true. The Family History Library is located just a block away from Abravanel Hall, at 34 N. West Temple. You can find more information on the library at www.familysearch.org.
Looking forward to May!

Posted: 2/24/04 at 9:49amIn reply to Faith 2: I posted to congratulate Michael, not to raise an issue. Michael doesn't discuss details of his private life in interviews or with fans he meets on the street. Why should he? Most of us wouldn't. But I'm sure he doesn't seek to be secretive either, as you suggest. There are many people aware of his situation. Why shouldn't the Mormons know that and still respect him? Posted: 2/24/04 at 10:15amActually, Ria, the concert at Llangollen is not until July. Nonetheless, it looks like he will be a very busy man the next few months. Sure wish I could be in SLC for his U.S. concert debut!

Maestro quote... "In reply to Faith 2: I posted to congratulate Michael, not to raise an issue". end quote.
It's OK Maestro, I wasn't trying to raise an issue either...I was just wondering, how and where would the Mormons get such private information, if, as you say the info is only known to insiders. I don't think any such information would be in a press release.
As I said earlier, when I agreed with you, the Mormons are to be commended *IF* they are privy to info that is not generally known.
I think the main issue here is the man's talent...nothing else.
I join you in congratulating Michael...and I welcome Michael and wish him all the best.
Love,
Faith2

It will be great to hear Michael sing the role of Joe Gillis in the SUNSET BOULEVARD concert in Ireland. As someone said, that must be the longest audition on record
- Michael first sang the role at Sydmonton ( Andrew Lloyd Webber's estate where he presents all new works when he has completed the basic musical score), way before the show premiered in London. And Michael did release a single of the title song... Petula Clark will sing the role of Norma Desmond...And someone has mentioned on a UK theatre board that the role of Betty might be sang by Emma Williams ( the first Truly Scrumptious on the CHITTY stage musical). The concert will be part of the BBC Radio series...hopefully, the rumour that it might also be filmed by BBC 4 is true.
Michael will certainly be exercising his lungs this year...Hope that includes a new album as well.

Any news on this yet? I've been calling Ticket Master 3 times a day and hit the net as soon as I step in the door for tickets.
I'm starting to get worried. I already have my Les Miz tickets and they are for the week after the concerts. When will they go on sale?

Posted: 3/5/04 at 9:26amFor those surprised to hear the "gay" rumor- I was actually surprised to hear the "straight rumor" (he's been with the same lady for years)-- I've never heard anyone in the theatre community refer to him as straight. There are a lot more gays in theatre than probably the most avid theatre goer knows.
