on his Instagram he posted that he's going on for the genie tonight on Broadway! Why is that?

He must have an emergency contract still in effect with the production. Similar to why Christine Dwyer went on for Elphaba in Wicked a handful of times a few weeks ago.

This is very unprecedented, but keep in mind that he is currently slated to open as the Genie in Australia's Aladdin in August, so he might have been rehearsing/rehearsed and ready for the role.

I believe he was the original Genie standby.

Iglehart has bronchitis & laryngitis.  Scott is listed on the Aladdin website as a standby.

It appears there are currently 2.  Scott and Major Attaway.
