"If you watch the MAKING OF MISS SAIGON video, you'll see Claire Moore rehearsing the song with yet another set of lyrics that gives the impression the song was at one time called "Who Says it Hurts""
This version never made it on stage, same as Kim's "Too Much For One Heart." This song was only released in Lea Salonga's Broadway Concert Album. This song was replaced by the current "Please", a duet with John.

I just watched the Broadway revival and was surprised neither song was in Act II! "Now That I've Seen Her" was replaced by the song "Maybe", which presents a more hopeful and likeable yet (personally) unrealistic Ellen. I still prefer the original "Her or Me" since I think Ellen would have felt that way immediately after seeing that Kim was a real live woman. After the years the song "Now That I've Seen Her" has grown on me but I'll admit I haven't been keeping up with this show the past 10 years and was surprised with the song "Maybe"
To make things a little clearer, there were 6 different versions/songs for Ellen.
1. What if he doesn't come back home tonight
2. Who says it hurts
3. Her or me
4. Now that I've seen her (With the lyrics "there are days when your life clouds over, and the world gets so dark, etc)
5. Now that I've seen her (with new lyrics, "It's all right when I just imagine, there's no face, she's not real, etc)
6. Maybe

Is the line "And I think it was better when I didn't know" still in the song in the Broadway revival?

does anyone know why HER OR ME was used in the OLC Cast Recording but then NOW THAT I'VE SEEN HER was used in the highlights recording as well as in the cassette recording?
