I was just watching a few clips of Angelica Hale, currently in America's Got Talent and the girl really is something special.

Of course she is way too young, she's just a child, but her aura, voice, looks and talent might be perfect for the role of Kim in let's say 6 years from now.

I really hope she continues to listen to theatre music as well and keeps taking lessons in both singing and acting.

Maybe they should wait with this film for 6 years anyway,  till the landscape of movie musicals has changed a bit and they go for real talent and class again. Because the current visions of musical on film are too lame for my taste.

But we'll see, maybe she turns into an ad-libbing pop diva by the time she's 15 just like Jessica Sanchez. I just hope the success didn't come too early for her and that she doesn't lose her innocence anytime soon.

They're two completely separate art forms. A successful film adaptation of Wicked won't affect the Broadway production of Wicked. I think it's an idiotic thought."

Exactly, look at Phantom and Les Mis, the movie versions only boosted theatre ticket sales immensely. It is just extra promotion.

Phantom and Les Mis are no where close to being a good comparison. Both movies came out decades after the show was running and successful. People here and elsewhere have argued that Les Miz the movie actually made it possible for the 2014 revival to become successful on Broadway.

If you think of it from a regular buyer's perspective - you wouldn't want to spent Broadway ticket money to see a story you just saw in a movie theater (or can see it) for $10-$20. But if there's sufficient time between two separate mediums - it will almost always benefit both of them.

i agree with this. I like Miss Saigon, but the material is so, so heavy, I don't see a huge audience for a movie, especially since the revival hasn't exactly been selling out.

The show always does well on tour and in every country it plays so there's definitely a market for the movie. I don't think the American market is thought of as the sole reason to make a film anymore so whether is does well on Broadway or not won't matter too much, I suspect. There is a big fanbase of the show worldwide.

But aside from that fanbase, this revival is actually an introduction of the show to a whole new American generation, as the show has basically been hiding for the last 15 years. Many people have never heard of it, so a movie with it's great story and music could really surprise a new generation.

It's all about marketing and promotion. I think they are heading into the right direction with Miss Saigon, with the current UK tour (brilliant production with rave reviews), the London and Broadway Revival and the show on dvd. A good start to getting the show and name out there again.

Also, I think movie musical audiences consist of 3 types of audiences:

1. The fanbase/True appreciators. People who know the show and/or love the artform of acting through song in general and per definition will watch the movie. Lovers of theatre, art, music, the genre. That's actually quite a big group.

2. Hype followers. People always excited for the next new thing/movie just because it's new. These people are often impressed by big celebrity names. No matter if they are any good. The saw les Mis because it would be fun to see Wolverine attempt singing. Often these people mention the special effects above other story lines too.

3. The general, indifferent audience. They go to the cinema, buy popcorn and then look at the board what is actually playing that night and then they make a choice. Basically, going to see whatever is produced and then form an opinion.

I think a good Miss Saigon movie can please and surprise all 3 groups. Phantom disappointed and disrespected all 3 groups, Les Mis only pleased group 2 a little (half) with the names but then let them down with the quality and effects.

This is reminding me of a tweet Lea put out not too long ago on her playing Kim again

She could play Kim's mom in a flashback scene during "this money's yours" or on the picture in the frame Kim holds right before the nightmare scene.
