Not Bellfast actually, the town referred to is Bellport. It is the town just east of Patchogue where the theater is located.

Just to further clarify, the Gateway Playhouse is based in Bellport, but this production is playing at the Patchogue Theater... in Patchogue. They do this for their larger scale productions.

The Gateway Playhouse is celebrating its 60th anniversary in BELLPORT, NY. Several years ago, when the old Patchogue movie theater was restored to its original purpose as a live venue, the Gateway was supposed to run it AND the Bellport facility. They put a small fortune into the lights, sound and other aspects of the Patchogue venue only to be told that they couldn't run the restored theater--mostly for political reasons. However, the Gateway still had all that equipment in the Patchogue Theater. A compromise was worked out and the Gateway does their larger scale productions at Patchogue, along with their children's theater productions. The Bellport facility is still their home base.

This is the Reader's Digest version of the story.

Now, I really don't know much about this production at all so excuse my ignorance when it comes to this post, but: A friend of mine saw it and said it was really good but she wasn't crazy about the lead.

Both of the leads played their roles in the original NY company. I don't know if that makes them "good" or not.

wow... Allan Hong as Thuy... oh man i'd LOVE to see that... i saw him in 1995 in the LA Company and that guy was amazing... brought this menacing portrayal of THUY... good to see him still around and working

Alex Lee Tano is KIM... one of the few non-Filipinas to do the role i believe... she was the Korean voice of Mulan i think as well... i have an audio of her doing the role and she's not bad... but i heard she was angry because when Lea Salonga left the show (after her first return engagement) she wasn't bumped up to lead (she was the alternate) so they just let her go... but that's a rumor i was told...

Thanks for the info on the theatre and the production. Obviously, I am not from that "neck of the woods", but a former student of mine is in the cast and I was wondering about it....

I saw it on TDF. Is there any easy way to get it form NYC?

Take the LIRR out to Patchogue, it's about an hour and twenty minute ride.

Yeah, take the LIRR to Patchogue. You can actually walk from the train station to the theater. The station is on S. Ocean Ave, so walk north on S. Ocean until you get to what is commonly called "the four corners" (the main intersection of the business district). That's Main Street. Turn right on Main Street and the theater is about 2 blooks on the left. It has a big electronic marquee.

There are plenty of cabs when you get off the train if you feel more comfortable with that.

I am definitely checking this out. May I suggest if anyone from the city decides to make the trip out, you should check out the restaurant Mangia Mangia, next door to the theater. It has some great Italian food, a little expensive though. They also own the Mexican restaurant MuChaChos, which is on the other side of the theater. And there is also Delfiore's Pizza Company. That is around the block from the theater. It is within walking distance. They have the best Irish Pizza I ever had. All these places are owned by the same people. From my rambling, it sounds like I work for them but I don't. I just really enjoy their food, maybe a little too much. Also check their hours before you plan on eating there because they tend to close early, like a lot of places in Suffolk County. There is a bunch of other great restaurants in Patchogue around the theater but I definitely suggest checking out one of those I mentioned.

Yes, Mangia, Mangia is terrific. There's also a JR's Steakhouse a few blocks away and the Chinese Restaurant on S. Ocean (You'd walk past it if you were heading from the train station to the theater) is also quite good.

I wanted to hear the woman playing Kim so I went on YT and found the Korean version of "Reflection." She seems to have a very good voice.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
