Vanessa Williams has genuine talent. And quite the set of pipes. She's far more plausible for a musical theatre role.
BTW, to the person who wants to pick the brain of the dance captains training these actors.... believe me, it's no picnic. That's all Im sayin'.

Whining about it doesn't do anything but make you look like a jealous baby.
Get a life, and wait to see her performance before you critique it.
"Cracky, Wacky, Hart!"
As the legendary Broadway performer Ethel Merman once put it: "You want to star in a Broadway show? You'd better live like a f---ing nun!"
that quote is fantastic!

What they said about Melanie Griffith is kind of strange. It's odd that they'd specifically note that she couldn't sing or dance (which is true of a lot of people), but not even mention the more interesting fact that she couldn't act, speak coherently, hold her head up, or walk a straight line on stage.
I'm excited for Tara Conner. She can't possibly be worse than Melanie. If she is, it will defy all worldly reason and I won't be surprised if the Ambassador just suddenly implodes and takes all of 47th-52nd streets with it... in which case none of this will even be an issue anymore.
Raspberry, I don't think all of those other theatre's should be included in the line of fire. Let's just leave it at the Ambassador!!
I agree. I definitely don't think they should be taken out. I don't even want to see the Ambassador go (Chicago is my favorite thing on Broadway right now), but with something that cataclysmically wrong happening, who knows what might happen?
It's probably a mute point though because nobody will be worse than Melanie.
(I'm so sorry, everyone, to keep my annoying rant going for so long. I'll stop now and just leave it at this: in my opinion, Melanie Griffith is not good.)
I am so sick of these people getting the oppurtunity that most people work for years and years to get. Its so upsetting. Coming from someone who wants to be on broadway, and I know I will have to work really hard along with everyone else, its just such bull**** to give someone a role without them even trying. And I thought Ashlee Simpson was bad!!

agreed 100% There are SO many struggling performers out there, and i guarantee that a decent amount of them will for SURE be better than tara (prob most of them, but i wont judge til i see). Granted there have been a few great performances by some of these people, but most of them just are not up to par and do not deserve to be on broadway. Ok, rant over, but seriously, it gets a little rediculous. There are plenty of other deserving performers out there for this role to go to. I can only hope that she's better than I'm expecting.
Isn't she suppose to be polishing a crown somewhere and Deworming orphans in Somalia?
Was he platform being a broadway wanna-be?
I actually think Vanessa would be an interesting Roxie ~ though she might be more suited for Velma (looks & voice wise)
I *love* CHICAGO but I *hate* what they have been doing with the casting of Roxie recently- except of course Bebe. Disgusting and ridiculous. At least it's not Velma.

Really, Eponine? I have to disagree. In the past year or two, I've seen Roxie performed by Charlotte D'Amboise, Bianca Marroquin, Michelle DeJean (did I spell ANY of those correctly? ), Bebe Neuwirth.... I know I'm forgetting a few; I should go check my Playbills. Anyway, I thought all of these women were great. I probably liked Bebe the least of all, and she was still wonderful!
What don't you like about the recent Roxie casting? Or are you just talking about Ashlee Simpson in London? I only saw her in the 10th Anniversary show, and I thought she sang her little part well, but it's not really enough to form an opinion of her Roxie.

Pity BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is closing...she would make a perfect Belle. :)
I adore Charlotte d'Amboise! She *IS* Roxie Hart to me. No woman will ever be better in the role in my eyes (but I haven't seen Bebe yet) I almost forgot to include her in the 'recent' Roxie's since it seems as if she's been Cassie in ACL forever now! *lol* Sorry about that. In fact, I'd love to see Charlotte and Bebe perform as Roxie & Velma together.
I'm refering to the string of stunt casts: Melanie Griffith, Marilu Henner, Brooke Shields, Rita Wilson, ect... and most certainly Simpson. With the exception of Rita, none of those women should have been allowed near the theatre let alone be onstage as Roxie.
So... Is Bianca any good? I have yet to actually see her in thr role.
Janice D woul make a great Go to Hell Kitty

- Um. I guess you never heard of Gwen Verdon. The woman who basically conceived the whole show. Chicago the musical would never have happened without Verdon, who continuously bugged Fosse to make a musical of it.

- Brooke Shields was a FANTASTIC Roxie. She without a doubt had one of the most creative "Roxie" monologues ever. She was VERY unique with her take on the role, and she did all of the Reinking/Fosse choreography, nothing was watered down for her.
And since Vanessa Williams was mentioned. I'm still waiting for her to be cast as Velma. She'd be fantastic in that role, granted she hasn't lost her fabulous dance skills - but that's doubtful.
Its irony that she will play Roxie Hart, and her fame came from negative press.

Brooke Sheilds was FAR from fantastic. She was mediocre at best.
As for Bianca Marroquin, she's a phenomenal Roxie. One of the best I've ever seen (and I've seen pretty much everyone to come in and out of the Broadway company in the past 7 or 8 years).

Bianca is amazing. I think I've seen her... three times? A very likable Roxie that does all of the right singing, dancing, and cartwheels. She has a great "Sweet Charity"-like adorableness when she does this part.
But I also liked Brooke Shields. I thought she was one of the (if not THE) funniest Roxies I've seen.

Please, God, no. Someone would have to be on serious mind-altering drugs to have this girl replace/follow Bebe Neuwirth. If this happens....wow. She could surprise me; I'm not abandoning hope for her. But if Robyn Hurder has to understudy Miss Rehab USA, something is definitely wrong here.

To be fair I remember when I saw the tour of Cabaret in Vancouver I was disappointed as I read that Sallyw as played bya former Miss USA (i think? Miss America?) and she was great! forget her name though :P
E
Kate Shindle. She was Miss America and that pageant actually has a talent portion. Kate is coming to Broadway soon in the Selma Blair part in "Legally Blonde."

Ah very cool. She wasn't phenomenal or whatever but I do remember her being very good
