My friend is performing 'All For Laura' at a revue/talent show function we have at our school. We are dressing her up and everything. She has Maria's range, just not that raspy tone (which is beautiful) I don't know how it will turn out but I am going to video it if any of you are interested, which you are probably not.

has anyone heard Maria Friedman's "cover" of Don't Cry For Me Argentina on the Essential Andrew Lloyd Webber CD?

I just got WIW OLCR this morning. What a beautiful score, but it was a little bit boring for my first time. Maria deserve the Tony's, at least a nod.

Maria Friedman's new solo CD is being released in May
amazon.com has preorders on it!
I really missed The Woman in White last night when I was at the Marquis Theater. I enjoyed WIW more than Drowsy.
WithoutATrace: Yeah, when I saw Drowsy I also started to miss WiW. As I was leaving the theatre, I started to miss it a lot.
P. S. What did you think of TDC? I thought it was a decent show, extremely hysterical, but doesn't deserve all the out of town hype it got.
I really enjoyed it. It was hilarious...I found I was laughing a lot at times. However, is it a good musical? Not really. I expected MUCH MORE considering all the hype. The performances were excellent, but I just don't think there is enough material there. I guess it was much more well recieved with the west coast audience.
The Woman in White, on the other hand, was brilliant and I really missed it walking into that theater last night.

I don't think I can even bring myself to entering the Marquis to see TDC because it'll just depress me to see something happy-go-lucky when the first show I saw there was an amazing drama...THE WOMAN IN WHITE.
I'm still upset that it closed. It deserved so much more recognition. After I had seen it at the January 14 evening show I started thinking about seeing Maria's last show that would have been this summer. Unfortunately, economics did not allow me to see the last show on February 19!
I'm still such a WIW dork. I listed to it constantly, remembering almost every detail of that performance.

I miss it too. A lot has been written about what everyone else is doing. Maria's cd release coincides with her gig at the Carlysle. I have also found out that Michael Ball is on the mend. He is back in the recording studio in London. He was not allowed to sing a note for two months when he finally left the show. That must be awful. Anyway he is going to do some summer concerts in the UK. And he and Elaine Paige are trying to work out a concert gig also. Not heresay. It is from his interview on Brisbane Radio. Just to add to the what are they doing now bit.

The Woman in White would have added what seems to be missing in this year's forthcoming TONY awards selections. An excellent traditional piece of musical theatre!

I think you have hit the nail on the head, Jo. The WIW is a traditional musical drama. Beautiful, magnificent to look at, lush, and by far the best vocalists ever in one show. And very original. A composite of several of the numbers would have been a huge hit on Tony night. It is a shame really. Maria would have been a contender for best actress in a musical and Michael Ball as best featured actor in a musical. I would have loved to see them both on Tony night. But if they are both healthy or on their way to health again, that is the best thing. And the most important thing.
I never saw the show, but I LOVE the cast recording. It is so hauntingly beautiful and you just get emersed in the story and are wondering what is going to happen next, as you imagine the action, costumes, sets, etc. that is on the stage within your own mind. Not too many Cast Recordings can do that for you. Sweeney Todd is another example of this. Both are excellent theatre.
I love and miss dearly The Woman in White.
I sat in the last row a few times for the show and last night I sat front row for Drowsy and I was like wow imagine seeing Maria right here. It made me sad.

So I am assuming they aren't eligible for a Tony anymore...
Fabrizio: Not necesscarily. There's just a much smaller chance of them getting a nom, let alone a win.

I was so looking forward to seeing a song or two performed at the Tonys...I thought for sure they'd be at least nominated. =(
I'm still hoping for a couple of Noms:
in order of likelihood:
Best Actress - Maria Friedman
Best Score - Andrew Lloyd Webber
Best Featured Actor - Michael Ball
Best Scenic Design (definitely most innovative) -whatever the guy's name is that did the designs
and, if the Tony voters sour
Best Musical -
I am a huge woman in white fan, as you can probably see. I was lucky enough to see it once on broadway and once in London. The only thing that will bring me to seeing TDC is Sutton. I can't wait to see Maria at Carlyle, I am definitely trying to get an autograph! I met Elena Shaddow, ensemble member of WIW after her performance of Carnival at Paper Mill and she's terriffic and then Elizabeth Loyacano who is doing phantom in Vegas. The whole cast is somewhere, just have to look for them! Its so sad that the show is gone. I listen to the album all the time.
I really hope there is a natl tour. If not, I still have the memory. I was lucky to see both Maria and Michael Ball together.
I think we will see Maria being nominated, but we might have to pray for a win. This is one of ALW's shows you either love or you don't. I love it and it has become my favorite show.
We can hope for a return one day!

It has become my favorite show also. I feel it will go the Aspects route. A few days down the road people will still listening to it and discussing fond memories and some great performances.

You certainly are lucky! =) Cool avatar, too. My favorite character was Laura, but it would certainly be challenging to play Anne Catherick.
The reason I probably like Laura is because I loved to sing her songs and I sounded really good singing them. But like EganFan2 it would be awesome to play Anne or even Marian!
