Molly Ranson cast as Carrie

I posted this in the other "Carrie" thread but since there are all of the rumors flying around about Jenn as Carrie, which is simply not true, I thought I'd start another thread.

Molly Ranson has been cast as Carrie. She's in her early 20's and has only been on Broadway once - in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY. She played Jean, the little girl (not so little though).

I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with Molly's vocal talents and/or stage abilities? She was the Jean alternate so I never got the chance to see her in AUGUST. I'm wondering if picking an unknown, per say, was the best route to go.

Thoughts?

She was also in the principal cast of AUGUST in London.

She took over when the original Jean left and played the part full time.

She was good- she seemed way more like a teenager than Madeleine Martin did, and seemed to grasp the role. She wasn't a revelation, but she was certainly good in the part.

Isn't Damiano rumored for the friend now?

Yes. But at one point, Damiano was rumored for the role of Carrie.

Molly Ranson has been officially cast as Carrie. It is no rumor. Just hasn't been announced yet.

I'm not sure what her vocal talent is but I saw her in AUGUST: OC the first time I saw the show, and she was one of the few cast members (perhaps the only one) that stood out as not being particularly great. Perhaps it's unfair to judge since she had to share the stage with the likes of Estelle Parsons and Amy Morton but a lot of her line readings came off as amateurish and you could see her "act.'
I saw Madeleine Martin when I re-visited the show and thought her take on Jean was more interesting.

I'm curious to see how Molly will do in "Carrie". I personally loved Madeleine in AUGUST but never got to see Molly.

I just have no clue how Ms. Ranson will handle this role. Should be interesting!

Well, I wasn't expecting that...I would've really liked to see Jennifer Damiano in this role. But, I'm wishing Miss Ranson the best! I can't wait to attend this reading.

I saw her in August and thought she was just AWFUL. What a shame. Hopefully she's improved since then.

I thought she was quite good in August, but based on what I know of Carrie, the character of Carrie has to be able to really sing. Like sing really well. Is Ranson really a singer? I guess it's possible she is, and we just haven't heard her yet.

Has anyone ever heard her sing?

She was in a mounting of some new Tysen & Miller musical and also attended NYU for musical theatre so I'm sure she can sing. But the Carrie material is pretty demanding - right??

Yay Molly!!!

I saw her in Burnt Part Boys and she was very good, despite not being the main focus. Her voice is very good, and I'm eager to hear what she brings to Carrie.

Also saw Burnt Part Boys. She is not a belter. Remember thinking the role needed a stronger singer.

She absolutely IS a belter and can belt her face off. Her "Back to Before" was probably my favorite moment in any show I've ever done.

PS: Never assume a performer can't do something just because you've never seen them do it.

I would assume she can sing if she was cast. Its not like they were going for star power in the role for the reading...

I wonder if they are going to keep that 10 minute title song.
