re: Monkey: JTTW

I stand by my assessment of WWRY: A good concept and an interesting plot but one that's let down by Elton's script.

Thriller, from what I can tell, doesn't actually make pretensions to a plot. It's a tribute show like The Rat Pack.

So far I've only heard good things about it.
Do i go or do i stay!

re: Monkey: JTTW

Sometimes I think that part of the problem with jukebox or tribute shows is that people sometimes expect too much from them, or expect the wrong thing. I think in context that they can be very good but no, they arnt high drama and if you go expecting that then you can be disappointed. McDonalds can be ok and quite satisfying at times, but you dont go expecting gourmet cuisine do you? I think that you have to just put things in context at times to get the best out of them.

PS - any word on the Hairspray thing that I mentioned at the top of the thread?

Re: the closing of London's production of 'Hairspray'.
Ive not heard anything about this as yet but as I've said many times on many threads on here, if they do close it i wouldnt be at all surprised.
If it closed in the next 12 months it would close on a major high. It will be remembered as a major hit in London and the show that one more awards than any other in recent history. It is the show that, hopefully, broke the Shaftesbury curse.
It is the show that put Michael Ball even higher into the ranks of musical theatre stardom. He has already signed till april, if they wanted to close in October Im sure they will pay him handsomely to stay and close the show!
If it closed I would be heart broken!
(*to think it will close with all those credits and still no cast recording!)
(** its currently booking until Oct 24th)

re: Monkey: JTTW

Cool. How is it selling? I cant see that it is struggling to sell tickets. After winning so many awards, I assumed that it would run for a good 4/5 years...would they consider scaling it down and moving it?

re: Monkey: JTTW

sounds strange but i cant see them scaling down such a big show. Its selling very well fora show thats nearly 18 months old and could go on and on with the advance they have but this isn't the first time its been mentioned about it closing early so we'll just have to wait and see. I also would hate it if they went down the stunt cast route if Michael Ball leaves and the show continues. 3 months of Harvey, yes, but no stunt casting please.

re: Monkey: JTTW

Hairspray was very very full over xmas without Mr Ball, who has recorded some of the shows songs with the cast for his next album.
