no offense to her but i don't think carly would do well on film, see whats been mentioned about why cady hoffman isn't in the producers movie.

I really think we should all write letters to the Director's Guild of America URGING them to let Jack and Jerry have co-director credit.

Carly Jibson can't even do the role on stage. What makes you think she'd be good in the film?

I would have to strongly disagree with you. She's a terrific Tracy.

I personally did not care for her. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

Yes, unless the folk is Corine, and she unleashes a letter writing/fax campaign.

I personally am rooting for Marisa or Kathy Brier. I haven't seen Vanessa Olivarez, but I heard a rumor about her doing it...is she any good?
Not sure what to think about Travolta. I agree it would be neat to see someone who could dance in the role. But personally, I can't imagine it with anyone but Harvey. He just seems so perfect for the role.
I don't think they will question letting them co-direct...the movie would be a huge deal..they'll let them.

I agree that the role of tracy can be a star maker, so I think Id like to see someone unheard of take on the role for the film. If they want to stunt cast, ive always thought, even on stage, that Corny Collins is the perfect role for it, he doesnt have to be all that great at singing and dancing, just have an over the top persona and could still work the role fine. Im just concerned if they plan to stuff all those roles with well known celebs ... well too many egos can spoil a film.

I agree with Matt. I saw Carly in Chicago as Tracy and didn't care for her. I think Keala Settle (I think that's her last name...she's the current Tracy on the tour) or Marisa should be cast. They are both wonderful. I don't have much of an opinion on the Travolta thing. But the DGA should let the movie be credited as a co-direction. What are your thoughts on other big names for roles. Who would you like to see?
I have a vote in for Queen Latifah as MotorMouth and how funny would it be to see Destiny's Child as the Dynamites. I mean, since Beyonce has to everything with movies etc (did anyone see the Oscars?) Why don't they sing those roles.

Latifah's voice isn't powerful enough for her - at all.
This would be my ideal casting:
Tracy: Kathy Brier
Motormouth: Jennifer Holliday, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle
Corny Collins: Ryan Gosling
Velma: Glenn Close, Betty Buckley, Annette Bening
Wilbur: Clint Eastwood
I have absolutely no preference when it comes to Edna, Amber, Seaweed or Penny.
And I REALLY hope Jackie Hoffman gets to create her side splitting roles in the movie - she's the only Original Cast member I absolutely insist upon. But, I won't write letter...

Link!
Let me think....
I would love to see Ryan Gosling do THAT instead of Corny....but (don't hit me) Justin Timberlake or Nick Lachey, however typecast, would work.

i really dont want to see justin as link. i dont think hes anything like a 60s hearthrob- which is totally different from todays pop stars. i know its acting and all, but i havent seen justin do anything that makes me believe he can do more than imitate himself (though I used to love him on the mickey mouse club!) i dunno, maybe he can and we just havent seen it from him yet...
of course id like to see Matt Morrison be Link but hes not the only one capable of pullin off the role. im blanking right now, cuz i keep thinkin of guys who can act but not sing (orlando bloom?) , but ill come back if i think of someone.
>edit<
what about heath ledger? was he really singing in ten things I hate about you?

It would be swell if Ashton Kutcher was Fender.

I actually wish they would use:
Kerry Butler- Penny (she was awesome)
Mary Bond Davis- Motor
Travolta- Mrs Baltimore Crabs or Wilbur
Jackie Hoffman- The Gym Coach/Penny's Mom
Kathy Brier- Tracy
Harvey- Edna
Craig Bierko- Corny Collins
Kathy is a tv star so it could work. And her voice is incredible.
I have never seen her as Tracy but have seen her sing and her voice makes me cry. She is beyond talented. Carly is also great.
Marissa is also. I love them all.

Someone suggested Goldie Hawn & Kate Hudson as Velma and Amber which I still think is a great idea.

I think everyone is forgetting something important about some of these characters... they're teenagers! Kate Hudson as Amber? Nick Lachey or Justin Timberlake as Link? I think, and people might hate this, but Lindsay Lohan would be perfect as Amber. She's young, she's nasty... she could pull it off. I think for film they should try and go younger and cast teenagers in these parts unlike the stage version. I love Goldie Hawn as Velma though! And I don't think anyone could pull off Edna as well as Harvey.

Well if Kate can't do it, than how about Cher as Velma?

It just doesn't seem like Hairspray without just a touch of John Waters. At least his voice is used in the show, hopefully he will contribute something to the new film version. It would be great if Ricki Lake also made a cameo.
He may be a little too old but wouldn't Taye Diggs make a killer Seaweed?

If they offer Travolta the part, he should take it. He kept turning down CHICAGO, and was later quoted as saying he deeply regretted the decision.

I agree about Ryan Gosling as Link... I think he would do an incredible job! I'd pick Justin as a close second, I have faith in his acting ability, and we know he can sing.
