i think id really like to see megan mullaly as velma and mandy moore as amber. i think it could work. and i definetly think ricki should do a cameo of some kind.
for penny, if they wnated to do the star thing i think kirsten dunst, brittany murphy, or even mandy moore would be cute.
i also think that usher could be potentially good as seaweed.
hmmm...

Usher is the PERFECT seaweed, in all seriousness. This kid can dance and sing his ass off, and the energy he has onstage is perfect for this role. I'd be upset if it went to anyone else.
Kelly Clarkson if she works on her acting would be a good Penny, I think..
Tracy: KATHY BRIER
Edna: Harvey Fierstein
Amber: Lindsay Lohan
Penny: Kerry Butler, in an ideal situation.
Velma: Megan Mullaly
Seaweed: Usher
MotorMouth: Queen Latifah!
Link: Justin Timberlake

I think the Tracy in the current national tour Keala Settle is fantastic. She's soooo good! I saw her in Atlanta last weekend but what's so funny about that is that in the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) they said that Keala was good but did pass the "cuddle factor" meaning she's not someone you wanna cuddle? Isn't that most effed up thing you've ever heard of? Critics make no sense sometimes. Personally I think she is great and very cute and can sing like nobody's business! But whoever they pick for the film I just hope they get the right girl.

I approve of the above except for Justin Timberlake...I just don't see it, and I don't think he's a very good actor... maybe Kirsten if she can sing.

He's got the whiny, pretty boy factor. He is kind of charming, and that could go a long way with a part like this.

Gawd i hope like justin timberlake or brittany spears or any of those people get a part....i'd cry, i was so freaking out when i found out justin was gonna try out for rent. i mean, its one thing if they stars canactually act or sing, but i would love it a million times more if it was all unknowns or real broadway people. It gives more people a chance to do what they love. Its a broadway show, the movie should have broadway people in it...or atleast people who will make the show. People who we know have a set musical back ground.

My cast was for the movie. I'm not a Timberlake fan, per se, but I think he'd be perfect for the part.

I like the idea of Glenn Close but also I must say Megan Mullaly would rock as Velma too. She's a hoot! I have a class to get to but, I'll think up my whole dream cast while I'm there.

JKM- since when have they casted a movie about teenagers with teenagers? There seems to be an unwritten rule in Hollywood that to play a teenager in a movie you have to be at least 25.
"I hope you're all happy, keeping Alan off the team. Couldn't you, for once, open your minds and hearts and hear something that he couldn't see? I, for one, am glad that Alan is blind, so he can't see what, I am so sad to say, you can't hear." -Jerri Blank

I'm quite sure the part of Prudy Pingleton/Matron/Gym Teacher will be offered to Jackie Hoffman, but agree that Ana Gastyer would be a good 2nd choice.

Oh, and another thing, how about Lily Tomlin as Penny's mom and the various other roles?

boyfromchi....i agree with you that teens should play teens and that it sucks that teens never get to play teens its aalways young adults playing the part. im 17 myself and i find acting a very dificult business for teenagers. but you also have to consider voices. in the broadway show...it's all pretty much 19+ ages...i really dont care how old they cast but they gotta have the voice...but some of hairspray's parts u dont really need a voice..heh heh

Tracy: Kathy Brier
Edna: Harvey
Wilbur: Lateasa(edits out the first name) or Joel Grey could be funny in the role be he might be to old.
Penny:Jennifer Gambatese/Lindsay Lohan (I like that Idea) Maybe even Mandy Moore
Amber: Jessica Simpson in really stupid but what about even Kristin Chenoweth?
Little Inez:?????
Seaweed:?????
Motermouth: Queen Latifa

Queen Latifa would be really good but Kristen is a little too old to play Amber in my opinion, maybe Jessica.

sorry I don't mean to come across snobby. Now that I think about it, Kristen would make a good Amber, or Penny.

C'mon everyone, let Kerry be Penny!!! She's so adorable in that role!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps...
What did she realize, Kitten?
That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had...
Where?
On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.
