More show advice

Soo as i said in off-topic ... going there for business ... so planning to catch a few shows while i am in town.

I figure i can see 4 - 5 depending on a lot of things.

Here's my list
Spring Awakening
Grey Gardens
Beauty and the Beast
Mary Poppins
Drowsy Chaperone
110 in the Shade
Les Mis

--- what order would you put it in?

I'd recommend seeing the Grey Gardens documentary before you see the show. Some may disagree, but I wished I had seen it first. I had to go back to see the show again, and I got so much more out of it the second time because of the doc.

Honestly, skip Drowsy, Mary Poppins, Les Miz and Beauty & the Beast. Go see In The Heights and A Chorus Line instead of these others. Just a suggestion.

Itty Bitty Geisha? Toyland? Gypsy Pasadoble? Just a few popular favorites...

I agree with the other posters, as well as seeing A Chorus Line instead of the others you listed. Grey Gardens is a must but rent GG and The Beales of Grey Gardens before your trip.

A Chorus Line is the best show on Broadway IMO. You can't miss this Tony nominated revival. See it to believe it.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: More show advice

See Grey Gardens and Drowsy Chaperone for sure. I loved Grey Gardens without seeing the documentaries first. Then when I saw the DVD, the shock of Christine Ebersol's performance being so dead on was a huge rush. Admittedly I would like to see it again, but not because I didn't get anything because of not seeing the Docs. Drowsy is great - very funny but with another whole layer to it. Also I would see Spring Awakening, and it sounds like your heart is set on BEauty. So if you have time for a 5th, my order would be 110 in the shade, then Les Mis or Mary Poppins depending on whether I felt like whimsy or history. But actually, I'd see a straight play instead of either. Have a great time!

Les Miz (only if you have never seen it before)
Mary Poppins

I'd add A Chorus Line too as # 3 or 4 if you have never seen it.

Grey Gardens (I listened to the cast recording but did not see the documentary first and I still loved it. The documentary enhances it but the show can stand on its own)
Drowsy Chaperone
Spring Awakening
I would then add Curtains and skip Disney. Company is another good option.

Almost totally agree with unckristen. My only thing-skip Disney and see Company. While I didn't LOVE it, it's worth seeing, more than a Disney show that will tour.
Make sure you see GG, Spring Awakening and Drowsy Chaperone. (When I saw GG, I like, Kristen, hadn't seen the documentary and had only listened to a few songs on the recording. Loved it!!)

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Skip 110 in the Shade. The casting is pretty implausible.
I say it, but you think it!
