Most Memorable Moment in Theatre, 2005

So we have the threads for our favorite shows of 2005- I want to know people's single most memorable theatrical moment of 2005.

Mine, and I'm sure others will have the same, is Idina's appearance at the end of what was supposed to be her final performance in Wicked...January 9th, 2005.

It wasn't supposed to be her final performance, it happened the day before on the Saturday during the matinee. Her final performance was supposed to be the next day Sunday's matinee. Just letting you know about your most memorable moment.

Broadway_Boy- I know...I'm confused about what you're saying. She fell on January 8th, and the moment I was talking about was when she came out for the finale and curtain call on January 9th. January 9th was supposed to be her final performance.

Watching Sara Ramirez's "Diva's Lament" from the front row of the Shubert 2 nights before opening. The house was packed and both Dan Akroyd and Steve Buschemi were sitting two rows behind me. Her number was absolutely brilliant.

Fable (THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA)
The I Love You Song (SPELLING BEE)
The audience participation (SPELLING BEE)
Diva's Lament (SPAMALOT) *I may as well scratch that and put "every waking moment Sara Ramirez was on stage (SPAMALOT)*
The scene with Charity hiding in the closet (SWEET CHARITY)
and my number one moment in theater for the year 2005 is

January 9th, 2005--Idina Menzel arriving to perform the final scene of WICKED and to bid farewell to the show that catapulted her into Broadway superstar status.

It's weird when I think of moment, I think of one time thing, I wouldn't think of diff. moments from shows. It's interesting, not saying anyone was worng, but found it odd that I automatically thought to the one things.

Idina's "last" show has to be up there. Some wonderful concerts such as the Secret Garden benefit, Lea Salonga, the Hurricane Katrina benefit the day of the flea market...

Though there is one moment that's up there for me that isn't a one time only thing but it prob is up there w/ the Idina moment as truly the most memorable...watching Chita's show when she began to sing A Boy Like That.

Hugh Panaro's final performance as the Phantom.

It was wonderful and I was glad to be there with my friends.

One of the best performances I'd seen him give and a great curtain call.

Several moments in Sweeney, but the ending is the #1 moment.

Sweeney Todd in general is my most memorable "moment" in 2005. Through out the entire show I just kept thinking "Holy crap, I'm seeing Sweeney Todd on Broadway!" It was an awe inspiring experience!
- Fable "Light in the Piazza"
- Flea Market, walking around like a fool with my lifesize Sweeney Todd poster and meeting the Avenue Q cast and Bobby Lopez and Jeff Marx!
- Hurricane Benefit Concert, seeing Liza up there singing her heart out!
- Final Performance of Dessa Rose, being in the same room as Andrea Martin, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lynn Arhens, Stephen Flaherty, the cast of Hairspray, Veanne Cox, Greg Jbara and many more!

"Great Big Stuff" from DRS

Megan Lewis & Jen Simard in Forbidden Broadway: SVU performing the Wicked parody... I saw the show for the first time in Feb. and went back in August because I loved it so much.

The elevator scene in Sweet Charity

and saving the best for last... every MINUTE of Sweeney Todd. The highlights:
Patti LuPone playing the tuba (so fabulous I had to dedicate my avatar to it)
"A Little Priest" which is one of the best songs ever written and is so thrillingly performed by Michael Cerveris & Patti
Lauren Molina's Broadway debut and her rendition of "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" - this girl is amazing, best of luck to her!

*Being a 'Lucky Peasant' in Spamalot during the show's pre-Broadway try-out in Chicago, when the world was just starting to take serious notice of 'the girl' in the show...aka, Sara Ramirez. I don't think I'll ever forget her performing "The Divas Lament" and "Find your grail." OR the great cast around her.

Howard Mcgillian tearing my emotions apart as he repeated " I love you, I love you Christine, I love you...." after she leaves him. I don't think I have ever cried so much in the theater. A sad, but memorable moment.

The opening song of SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE... the huge red ribbon... the beautiful stone garden... and, Idina Menzel and Marc Kudisch. All with the best vamp of the twenty first century and the best song of the season...

Seeing Idina's ACTUAL last performance...and the resulting 45 minute wait

Chitty breaking down...and the resulting 45 minute wait

Seeing SWIWS and turning around in my seat to see Michael John LaChiusa sitting behind me

If I have to choose one, it would be the final, extremely emotional and beyond INCREDIBLE final performance of Chester Gregory as Seaweed in "Hairspray" on December 11.
