Considering only things that I was actually old enough to see (excluding things like A CHORUS LINE, HAIR, CAMELOT, etc.) the big ones would have to be Miss Saigon and, recently, Spelling Bee.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Yes, there is ONE musical theatre fan in the world who has never seen this show. Maybe someday.

You're probably better off.
I'd give anything to be able to go back to saying that I had never seen or heard Phantom.
Not only have a I never seen it, but I haven't even really heard much from Gypsy. I did "All I Need Is The Girl" for an audition once and that is the extent of my Gypsy knowledge.

I don't have to see GYPSY. I ACTED in GYPSY last summer! I played Pastie from the burlesque house in Wichita.

Sweeney Todd. I don't even know the music from it. Also, Chorus Line, Miss Saigon.

i have never seen sweeny todd in its entierty either.
although i have seen countless excerpts and a medley or two over the years.

The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending.

Well, there are a lot of more recent things I've never seen, but I've heard the cast albums, etc.
Believe it or not, the most popular musical I know next to nothing about has got to be Rent. I don't think I even know any of the score apart from Seasons of Love. I guess I need to see the movie when it comes out.

I was too young to see Miss Saigon, according to my parents. I wanted to see it, though. Which is pretty strange considering I saw Les Mis when I was six...
I haven't seen "Sunday in the Park with George" either.

I guess by these posts that "popular" is truly in the eye of the beholder.
I assumed popular = longest-running, etc. I wouldn't exactly call Sweeney Todd (557 perf.) or Sunday in the Park (604 perf.) the "most popular." Assuming that these posters haven't seen "Oh!Calcutta!" or the original run of "Oklahoma!", etc.
...Maybe most popular (and semi-current) among the people on this board?
