I would agree with Passion.

I LOVE Fiorello! and PASSION. I don't think either of those will ever really be forgotten. Fiorello! has the Tom Bosley factor, and Passion is a Sondheim show and will always have somewhat of a following for that reason alone.

But gonna have to correct you on that one, frontrowcentre2... There have been 7 musicals to win the Pulitzer...

Well, NOW yes. But when FIORELLO won it was only the 3rd musical in Broadway history to win a PP.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

RAISIN did produce one of the finest cast albums. Why it is not produced today is puzzling. When the revival of the play RAISIN IN THE SUN was announced a couple of years ago at first I thought it was a musical revival - with that cast it could have been done!

It HAS to be CITY OF ANGELS. An outstanding, witty show with a spectacular score, which doesn't have nearly the reputation it deserves. It also doesn't have a great life in regional and community theatre, because of its production requirements and lack of name recognition. I've always thought that it needed re-examination (and that, with some tweaking and minor rewriting, it would make a fantastic movie musical--after all, it's ABOUT Hollywood and its techniques are incredibly cinematic already.)

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

I'll still never forget when Will Rogers Follies won over Miss Saigon, Once on This Island and Secret Garden re: Most forgotten Best Musical Winner?
