I think the discrepancy in this thread is due to some of the posters believing that book smarts means intelligence. They are two separate issues.
I'd like to also mention in case some of our posters don't know, there are absolutely insane people in institutions who are highly intelligent. My own sister who was mentally ill, had a genius IQ score.

These are actors. If they're any good at their job, they can fake coming across as intelligent and informed in public.
And no, suffering from depression does not make someone intelligent. Good lord. That's like saying being an alcoholic makes people great writers.

I'm sorry you don't get it. I'll just end by saying that if you do a little research, you'll learn that intelligence has more to do with behaviors and having the sense to adapt to society, et al. Doing poorly in math does not show low intelligence, but if you want to maintain that it does, be my guest.

After going back a bit and reading a lot more posts in this thread, I'm just seeing how ridiculous it is. And I posted in it, not realizing what criteria some of the responders here have for judging intelligence. oy!

Posted: 3/4/13 at 5:48pmThat's just Jane failing to adapt to the rigors of a high school class, plan what you are going to do to try to get a decent grade, recognize that you are having trouble, all those things show are signs of intelligence.
