10 Things I hate about you
Aladin ? Although it depends on who directs it..
I have always thought The Addams Family would make a fantastic musical. It is so stylized and quirky, its just screaming to be a musical!
Some of my other ideas are:
Triplets of Belleville
A Pee-Wee Herman musical (obviously starring Pee-Wee)
Death Becomes Her
Big Fish
A Mighty Wind

Down With Love would be soooooooo awesome as a musical!
It's funny that someone mentioned Memoirs Of a Geisha because when I read the book I thought it'd make an excellent musical... it's been sometime since there has been any new musical with great parts for Asian performers... I think BD Wong would wet himself! It really could work... if they only are careful about the casting... lol
I don't think Pleasantville would work on stage... Part of the movie is extremely visual and I don't see how that could ever translate onstage! For once we had a movie with visual effects that were part of the story and actually MEANT something... I just don't see how this part of the movie can be just pushed aside for the stage.
It's kinda off topic (thought not really) but I'd really love it if Broadway producers were forgetting about movies and making more original musicals... I don't mind a few ones here and there and I understand how safer it is, financially, because the advertising is easier and because people are more attracted to stories they already know about but I guess I liked it more when plays were regularly turned into movies than the contrary... call me old fashion.
Color Purple would make a GREAT musical..
but wait, has that been done already?
i need to get myself to that show soon.
I think Brokeback Mountain would be great on stage, but probably better than a straight drama (no pun intended) than a musical.

BEING JULIA.
STAGE DOOR - It was originally a play. About struggling actresses living in a boarding house in the 1930's. 1937 film cast included Katharine Hepburn,Ginger Rogers,Lucille Ball,Eve Arden,Ann Miller and Constance Collier (Mary Testa would be brilliant in her role.)
I think Salinger hated Broadway as much (if not more) than movies, so I seriously doubt we'll ever see Catcher in the Rye onstage.
I don't care if movies are turned into musicals as long as they are well done.
hmm....I actually think "Edward Scissorhands" would do very well as a stage musical. I know the current ballet running in London is pretty successful. There's soooo much you can do in terms of sets and costumes.
I deff agree with "The Breakfast Club" on stage...but just as BroadwayNick said, I'd prefer to see it as a straight play over a musical.

I think that Leagally Blonde would make a great musical!

I'd like to hear The Exorcist with a score that combines Sondheim (Sweeney Todd) to raw heavy metal. I'd pay to see it.
Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Music and Lyrics by Jim Steinman
Someone mentioned The Witches, the Roald Dahl film with Anjelica Huston. Don't know how they'd pull off the mice but I'd pay to see it for the Grand High Witch scenes alone :) On the question of that are "witch" musicals successful?
Anastasia, the 20th Century Fox movie, should be on stage because a) phenomenal score and b) it's Ahrens and Flaherty. Would love to see who would play Rasputin
Other than that...
Great suggestions from all

The Craft
Forrest Gump
Gigli
"Joy Luck Club"....the content, the span of generations, the emotions, and just imagine the costume during flashback, it can be a great musical.
Ang Lee's "The Wedding Banquet." I know 2G Production has initiated a workshop on this but, I don't know where it stands now.
i think that the animated "Anastasia" would be an excellent musical! the music in it is quite good.
also, there is an "aladdin" playing in california adventure mext to disneyland and its amazing! if it could transfer to broadway (with changes...most notably expanded to 90 minutes or longer) it would be amazing!

There was a Broadway Musical version of ANASTASIA that had a brief run in the 1960's. It was called ANYA and starred Constance Towers, Michael Kermoyan and Lillian Gish.

Pleasantville. I think that would make an AMAZING show. Imagine, makeup and costumes so fantastic that it looks as if everyone's in black and white, and then when the color/fire busts out, it's amazing.

Nightmare Before Christmas. The End.
Just kidding...
Pleasantville would be interesting.. not sure how they'd get the black and white scenes, makeup? A special time of scrim? I dunno.
Sounds cool, though.

The nightmare before christmas has potential but costumes would be a major problem. How do you get a grown man to be a convincing Jack Skellington?
Also, I think that The Addams Family could work out great! It would end up being a morbidly funny musical if it was cast right.
Tim Burton's films would be great...
Corpse Bride could be simply magical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too.
Danny Elffman has the scores ready
THE CATCHER IN THE RYE is not a movie...
I think "The Five Heartbeats" would make a good musical.
Nightmare Before Christmas and Dirty Dancing.
