THIS IS AN OLD THREAD!
Lol at the Bonnie and Clyde suggestion.

Mystic Pizza. Not sure it would play now that Waitress is a big smash but I think the material is wonderful. A little dated but I think it could (and should) be adjusted to relate to today's audience
The First Wives Club- I know it's been done (badly) but if they did a complete creative overhaul and got Harvey on the book and Shaiman and Wittman on the score (Including "You Don't Own Me" is clearly a must), this could be a lot of fun.
The Hours by Tesori and Kron starring Carmen Cusack as Virginia Woolf, Beth Malone as Laura Brown and Audra McDonald as Clarissa Dalloway
Spirited Away directed by Julie Taymor. Say what you will about her but I think with the right material, she's a mad genius and this would fit her like a glove
Clue. This would be a field day for an ensemble of A-list musical comedy stars. One prerequisite: Jennifer Simard MUST play Mrs White.
I still like the Sabrina idea. I still want a new musical of Philadelphia Story since High Society is blah. And I'm wait to hear more about the Somewhere in Time musical - that's a perfect story to adapt.
I can see 12 Years A Slave making a beautiful musical with the right creative team. (Brandon Victor Dixon and Cythia Erivo)
Moonstruck starring Laura Benanti (also with Andy Karl, Patti Lupone, and Mandy Patinkin) is all I really need in my life. Maury Yeston could do a really wonderful job with the subject matter.
I'm not saying that it needs to be based on the film, but One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest would make a stunning chamber musical. I can see Kelli O'Hara making a great Nurse Ratched.
Honestly though, Frankel, Korie, and Wright should do Carol (Jane Krakowski and Benanti maybe) and It's a Wonderful Life (Steven Pasquale and Danny Burstein maybe).
I can really see Jeanine Tesori doing Fried Green Tomatoes (Victoria Clark as Evelyn and Barbara Cook as Ninny).
Back in 2006, when this thread was new, someone suggested that "Bullets Over Broadway" would make a great musical. I agree, having seen the hilarious musical version.
Audrey
Audrey, the Phantom Phanatic, who nonetheless would rather be Jean Valjean, who knew how to make lemonade out of lemons.

"In and Out." It's tightly plotted, loaded with scenes that sing; every time I watch it, I see the songs. The Selleck character, Joan Cusack, and of course, a dance sequence. It's only 90 minutes, and could probably accommodate music with much of the script held.
"I'm a comedian, but in my spare time, things bother me." Garry Shandling
I've said it before, but I'd love to see Hamlet 2 as a musical. Although, since its whole purpose is to make fun of movies about inspirational teachers, I'm not sure the point would come across as well. But I don't care, I just want to see "Rock Me, Sexy Jesus" on stage.
