Movies on Broadway

Posted: 1/15/05 at 10:10pmI'm bored and in a post-y kinda mood, so I've decided to pose this question to you all. What movies, musical or otherwise, would you like to see adapted on stage, and who would you like to star in it? My first choice would be the animated version of Anastasia. I think it would make a great Broadway producton if they added more songs and had the right people behind it. I think Emmy Rossum would be great as Anya, and Sutton Foster would be awesome too. I'm also psyched to hear more news about the Legally Blonde and Color Purple musicals, they both sound like wonderful ideas!

I mean, Oklahoma was based on a play, South Pacific based on the book, My Fair Lady based on Pygmalion... all the classics were based on something, what musical isn't based on some kind of pre-existing piece???

"Somewhere in Time"
So - anybody but me think that Hugh and CZJ would be just lovely in it?

Oh, thats a great idea. I definetly see Hugh Jackman in it, not so sure about Catherine though.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 12:23amI would absolutely love to see The Virgin Suicides put onto the stage. I think, under the right direction, with the right actors/actresses, it would transfer really well onto stage as a play. It's one of my absolute favorite books and movies, and think it could work.

Sondheim has talked about doing a musical version of "Groundhog Day" for some time. I'd love to see that.
I'd also love to see a musical version of "The Three Faces of Eve," written by Michael John LaChiusa and starring Donna Murphy.
