Movin' Out - WOW!

I finally got around to seeing Movin' Out this week. (I don't know why it took me so long. But now I am very close to my goal of seeing everything on Bway - only Fiddler is left and then I am done....at least until the next show opens......)

Everything worked out perfectly - The TKTS booth had Movin' Out available and the seats were great (Orch Row M on the side) and John Selya and Michael Cavanagh were both performing that night. The Wednesday night performance appeared to be nearly sold out.

All I can say is WOW! I already knew that I would like Michael Cavanagh's performance of Billy Joel's songs (from the cast recording and his performance at Chef's Theater). And he definitely did not disappoint - he was amazing. I knew the dancing would be good, but I was not prepared for how overwhelmingly moving it was going to be. It was incredible. Twyla Tharp is a goddess for her fantastic choreography. John Selya is an AMAZING dancer and a hottie too! (Does anyone know if he sings too? A triple threat, for sure!) And I thought Nancy Lemenager was incredible, as well. If you like modern dance, you should definitely see this show.

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the review, because I was debating about seeing it. But now with your positive review, I might look into it!

This show is so awesome! I was able to see in May of '03 just as it became one of the "hot tickets". For those who love Billy Joel or Ms Tharp, you are in for a real treat, and if you (like my husband and I) like both... you're gonna be in HEAVEN!

I saw it twice and both times I thought it was incredible. I actually saw the understudy for John Seyla the first time, I can't remember his name but it was Ron something and he's supposed to be on the tour, and he was fantastic.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Ron de Jesus from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in John Selya's part? I agree that John is an amazing dancer.

I'm not crazy about a full evening of Tharp though I don't mind a full evening of Billy Joel.

I loved the tryout in Chicago and I'm thrilled to see it's still running. Though not a "musical", I think it is a very good show.

What would you call it? A revue?

re: Movin' Out - WOW!

It sort of reminds me of what the Joffrey did ten or more years earlier - BILLBOARDS - an all dance show to music by Prince.

Michael Cavanaugh was amazing when I saw it as well. I think he deserved the Tony Award over Dick Latessa.

What do you (the people who saw it) think of the tour? I really want to see it but want to make sure it's worth it.
