The old "people won't pay to see a show without falling chandeliers" argument is getting really, reall hackneyed.
If a show is good, people will pay to see it.
SWEENEY TODD has no falling chandeliers. THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA has no helicopters. DOUBT surely has no special effects either.
If something is good, it will generally run. If something is bad, it will not. Special effects have nothing to do with that.
