This board always gives one pause for thought...

The old "people won't pay to see a show without falling chandeliers" argument is getting really, reall hackneyed.

If a show is good, people will pay to see it.

SWEENEY TODD has no falling chandeliers. THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA has no helicopters. DOUBT surely has no special effects either.

If something is good, it will generally run. If something is bad, it will not. Special effects have nothing to do with that.

This board always gives one pause for thought...

The tourists and Bridge-and-Tunnel folks will not go to see it because there are no falling chandeliers or flying helicopters...

How long are people gonna say this? Really? Where's the chandalier in Hairspray? Sweeny Todd? The Producers? Where's the Helicopter in Light in the Piazza? That kind of elitism is really smelly.

Yeah, it just SUCKS when young people get excited about theater.

/sarcasm

Nobody's opinion on what makes a show "good" or "bad" to them is invalid. We all have different tastes. Why can't people get over that? And I hate it when people get annoyed because a gaggle of 12 year olds think a show is the 'second coming' - so WHAT? Everybody gets sucked into musical theater somehow. I enjoy their passion (if not ignore their instant messenger style typing skills)

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

Hey! Piazza has a flying hat. I don't know about you guys, but that's why I saw the show twice. That was amazing.

Actually, if anybody has seen the Forbidden Broadway Piazza skit... now that's funny.
