I'll apologize right off the bat because I know this was discussed here before but I can not find the post. I go to an all girls high school and this year our drama club was planning on putting on a production of "Into the Woods". Unfortunately, we were unable to attain the rights to the musical. I'd like some suggestions of musicals with predominantly female casts that we could possibly perform. Last year we did "Nunsense", and while I hated the musical itself, it worked out very well (for the most part).

I just realized today that Into the Woods has a lot of feamle roles, there are good male roles, but there are many more female roles.

Female:
Witch
CInderella
Little Red
Rapunzel
Bakers Wife
Jack's Mother
Cindrella's Stepmother
Cindrella's stepsisters x two
I think there might be one more

Male:
Jack
Ciondrella's Prince
Rapunzel's Prince
Baker
Narrator

Double casting the wolf and Cinderella's Prince *really* irks me.

i was one of 3 guys in a crappy production of sound of music. i played max, the other 2 played the captian and rolf. the children became all daughters (fredrica) and we added one more to accomodate the cast (heidi).

1776?

The only male in that cast is John Hancock.

You see, traditionally Ben Franklin is a woman in drag.

WEST SIDE STORY? There are TWO female characters in that show...and then a tiny little ensemble of girls who appear once or twice in the show, but we never know their names. That show is male dominant by FAR.

I second the recommendation of Quilters - a beautiful all women show about the experience of females in the settling of the west.
