I always wondered about Musicals in Israel, because I love to sing in Hebrew. What musicals have been done there, and what is there currently?
Have they ever done RENT? I'd love to hear La Vie Boheme A and B in Hebrew.
Off topic, but I love Eili Eili, and they should make Chana Senesh the Musical and put that in there.
Ooooooook. I'm not sure there are many Israeli musicals, but I'e only been there once. I somehow doubt they have Rent.
Do you know the story of Chana Senesh. It's Anne Frank-ish, but a lot different too. It's such a touching story, and her poems and songs are some of my favorite. I'd love to see her remembered in a musical.
My school made up a Chanah Senesh musical. But the funny thing is, Chanah Senesh only had about one line.
There is a lotttt of musicals in Israel.
here are some of Hanukkah musicals,

The story of Chana Senesh is not a musical yet...
But maybe someday!
Chicago is now playing...
And the Rumors say's RENT will come to Israel too...
Hiow could they only give Chana one line?! Again, I love Eili Eili. Favorite song of all time.
I think RENT in Israel would be really funny for some of the people who are really up tight about these issues, like my Hebrew School teacehr's aprents who left after La Vie Boheme B. They didn't like the "bisexuals trisexuals homosapiens carcinogens hallucinogens men Pee Wee Herman..." and the "to faggots lezzies dykes, crossdressers too!"
I wanna make my Hebrew class put on Chana Senesh!!! I'd love to write it! Maybe I will...
hahaha...
Oh! by the way!
There is a BIG musical I can't tell about yet,
and they invited me to play the main role!!! (Is it right
to say main rol1??)
And here is a song from the musical "OLIVER"
(not with the songs that you know... Original songs...)

No no!!!

Don't be fool and think we stay in our homes every day.

I have heard that they have a big boom for musicals at times. You can go to EBAY and find cast recordings of shows.
:)
Get Dudu Fisher's CDs! I own two of them, and although his arrangements can be a little funky, he's still fun to listen to.
Here are my recommendations for Hebrew musical cd's :There are a few exceptions- the OLD (not the new) Hebrew recording of My Fair Lady with Rivka Zohar (avoid the new one with Rita at all costs!)and a wonderful Hebrew musical (which would be hard to find on CD even in Israel) called Shlomo Hamelech ve Shlomi Hasandlar (Solomon the King and Shlomi the Cobbler). Of course you can also get Topol singing Fiddler in Hebrew (not my cup of tea). I don't personally recommend SE'AR (Hair) or Tslilei Hamusica (Sound of Music).
A really really fun Hebrew musical which did not have a cast recording is Mari Lu. It's a book musical which incorporates the songs of Tzvika Pik. It was savaged by the critics but was loved by audiences. I happenned to see it and was pleasantly surprised. The critics didn't get the book- which is a very funny adult satire on fairy tales (the heroine leaves her love in Israel and moves to LA with dreams of becoming a movie star and instead becomes a porno star and a prostitute) and also on the 70's in Israel. It also has a very funny and sweet gay subplot. The cast whose leads include a former model and a boy band singer were surprisingly good.
On another interesting note...Almost every well known musical has been done in Israel (from ShowBoat to Sweeney Todd) more than once. One musical that has never been done in Israel is Gypsy and I don't know why.
I'd love to find some recordings of shows from Israel. In my Hebrew class we were translating titles of different music groups, plays, and movies. I kept bringing up titles of shows. If I get to go to Israel to study in two years, I'll probably try and see a show...
Do you know where I colud get these recordings? Chanukah is right around the corner.
Good idea... I could probably ask for one or two recodings...
has anyone ever heard of the israeli singer "Sveka Pic" ?
see my e-mail above regarding Tsvika Pik's musical "Mari Lu".
Best selection is on ebay...I believe jewishmusic.com has the Not very good My Fair Lady (with Rita)
HELLO DOLLY was a smashing success in Israel. I've seen many American musicals over here. To be honest, many of the musicals done here are sub-par, but still enjoyable. HELLO DOLLY was wonderful, in any language!
