re: Musicals scheduled for 08-09 season

Well, there's very little wishful thinking here. Billy Elliot, Vanities, Godspell, and Dancin' have all been formally announced as coming by their respective producers. Catch Me If You Can, Shrek and 9 to 5 (the latter having a cast and director and an out of town tryout already booked for September) are all tentatively scheduled.

Roundabout is very likely bringing back Cabaret (maybe to inaugurate the newly renovated Henry Miller Theatre which is scheduled to re-open next year).

Sorry, Margo, I was talking about West Side Story, not Porgy and Bess. I guess I should have made that more clear. So does anyone know if a Broadway revival of WSS is still planned?

I heard about a month ago they were shopping around for a casting agency for "West Side Story."
Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.

What about that Scott Schwartz directed Children of Stephen...I mean Eden?

EDIT: Do we really need Schwartz's Old Testament and New Testament musicals in the same season, though? I say no to both.

I thought West Side Story is coming to Broadway Fall 2008?

re: Musicals scheduled for 08-09 season

Arthur Laurents (the original bookwriter) actually announced at one point that he would direct the WSS revival himself for the coming season. Not sure how much progress has been made considering how busy he probably is with he GYPSY revival scheduled to open in the next few months. Perhaps, once that's up and on its feet, he can devote his full attention to it.

And Taymor mentioned she and Bono of U2 were hard at work adapting Spiderman in a recent interview. She didn't mention a time frame, but given it's still in development and hasn't workshopped yet, it probably won't be until 2009 at the earliest.
