This really is a dilemma and I would assume there's a lot of legal factors involved with Jame's contract. I only saw James, who was wonderful -- but if I was a producer who had to decide, I would probably go with the opening night Sonny if that deal went to the highest bidder. James would probably be compensated somehow.

Honestly, the average tourist person buying the recording is not going to care who is on the recording. Just make the best possible recording with the best possible deal. Cast recordings rarley make money, so no need to be picky, just go with the best offer. It's show business, that sucks, but that's the way it is. James knows that.

Yes. There will be a cast recording. Details coming very soon. If I had to guess, it will be announced with those details by the end of the month or top of next

I'd also like Cheyenne to record it, but you know, it'd kind of suck for James because hes not been pushed aside, but hes certainly missed a lot of the publicity from XANADU if you get what I mean. So in that way, I at least hope he gets to do the recording.

But I dont really care, I just want the cd already!

When we first had our tickets it was when James was in the role of Sonny. Saw Cheyenne as Sonny (only his second performance) and can not imagine anyone else in the role. Can NOT wait for the OBCR!

Okay, I realize that this is going to be something else that everyone else already knows, but I am confused about the whole Caprinello or Jackson thing. When I went to see the show, it was still in previews and Caprinello was Sonny, gut Jackson was on the posters, but not in the playbill so I was really confused. Did he leave for a while or get hurt or something, and is he back now?

James began previews and broke his foot a short time into previews. They hired Cheyenne to take James' place until he healed and was able to return. Cheyenne ended up opening the show, so technically he originated the role. Cheyenne is still in it and will remain in the show until at least October.

You must have been mistaken with the posters. If James was still in the show when you saw it, James was on the posters back then.

Cheyenne was never on a display until the reviews came out, and until last week, was only on the NYT review on the stagedoor gate. His name was never listed on the outside credits poster either, which was eventually replaced by another review.

Thanks for clearing that up, but I am sure it was Jackson on the posters, I just checked my playbill and I saw it on July 24th, and I was mistaken Carpinello was in the playbill, but we actually saw Holbrook as Sonny, since Carpinello was out, so whatever, but that's cool about the Chyenne thing, hopefully I can get back to see him!

I'd think this wouldn't be a topic of debate any longer. James has officially withdrawn from the Broadway production, with thoughts that he may do the tour or the London version. While it would be a nice gesture for James to do a cut on the OBCR as a "bonus," I think it should really be in Cheyenne's ballpark now. Bottom line, get the bloody thing recorded and out ASAP!!!

If I was a producer, I'd be worrying more about what would be best for the show than Carpinello's ego/feelings. Bad things happen sometimes to good people. It's life. He's a professional adult and I'm sure would understand. While it's not his fault he broke his foot, it's also not the producers'.

It's kind of like when people talk about how heartless the three day funeral rule for Equity is. It stinks, but it's a business and the world can't stop just because your mother died. As heartless as that sounds, it's just how it is. They gots to get the work done / money made somehow!

Annie Golden told me at the stagedoor on Wednesday evening that they had been told earlier that day they would be making one. She didn't really give any details, though.
