It's clear that many people in this thread have not seen Passing Strange, because if you're picking anyone from Young Frankenstein, Cry-Baby, Little Mermaid or Xanadu over them, you're dead wrong. Here's who I think SHOULD win, not necessarily who will:
Best Actress: Patti LuPone (Gypsy)
Best Actor: Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights)
Best Featured Actress: Laura Benanti (Gypsy)/Andrea Martin (YF)
Best Featured Actor: Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange)
Best Set Design: In The Heights
Best Lighting Design: Passing Strange
Best Costume Design: Little Mermaid
Best Choreography: In The Heights (though this was the best part of Cry-Baby...it's just not a good enough show)
Best Direction: Annie Dorsen, Passing Strange
Best Book: In the Heights
Best Score: In The Heights
Best Orchestrations: Passing Strange
Best Musical: In The Heights
Best Musical Revival: Sunday In The Park With George/Gypsy

"By the way, Mandy Gonzalez is leading actress, not featured."
She's below the title, which means unless they've petitioned her for Leading Actress (where she won't be nominated) she's Featured.

bigred3535 - you think that the revival will be between Gypsy and Sunday? That goes against what everyone else is saying. You don't think South Pacific will be in contention? Interesting. I think it's a tight race between Sunday and South Pac.
Again - I reiterate - I think that Sunday will win for either Set Design OR Lighting. I cannot see it winning both. The projections will count as one or the other. If ithey count as sets then I cannot see the lighting that was used in the show (above and beyond the projections) winning awards.
As for sets - I think South Pacific, ITH, or even YF should get it...unless Sunday's projections are considered sets, in which case it should land it.
I'm rambling. Sorry.
The only Tony Awards that are set in my mind are August and ITH for Choreography.

Posted: 3/26/08 at 2:20pmNo, I didn't forget it, I just didn't like it very much. Though, I think the orchestrations and score should get nominations and possibly win.

Nope, they are the original orchestrations. Same with GYPSY.
SUNDAY is eligible, but probably won't get nominated.

Posted: 3/26/08 at 2:56pmI hope not. Everything about Sunday deserves recognition (imho) except the orchestrations.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:35pmI think New York Magazine said it best when they said it would be a slap in the face to LuPone. And as many people as LuPone may have annoyed over the years, I wonder if they'd really give her such a slap.

I don't think SOUTH PACIFIC will sweep the design categories.
There has been a lot of talk recently about the "unfair advantage" non-profits have over commercial productions. While I don't think this argument will have any affect on PACIFIC's Best Revival win, I think voters will want to give awards to other shows in the design categories (although PACIFIC will most definitely win at least one).

Posted: 5/25/08 at 2:11pmpatti doesn't have it yet, so kelli still has a shot and it wouldn't be slap if patti doesn't get it, thats a little extreme, so in short it is definitely not patti's yet. Who will it be, find out Sunday June 15th
