Keep an eye out. I am sure that a paper or two and maybe a few websites will send reviweres at some point.

As for the face she was wearing -- who knows. They have all been stretched so tight you can hardly tell the difference anymore. The only way to tell one from the other is the nose. One looks like it was hit by a truck and one looke like it had an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

Ha!

I'm just finding this SO funny.

The cast knows how BAD she is. Broadway fans like us were cringing as soon as we heard she was coming in, and yet because she's a NAME she gets cast.

Well, "That's showbiz kid."

Everyone KNEW this was coming. I wonder if she'll need hospitalization to deal with the trauma. SO sad!

This thread reads like the work of a Cyberspace Lynch Mob! I expect to read next that she'll be strung up at high noon in Time Square.

My perfect day would begin at on the beach in Hana, Maui and end at a Broadway Musical.

Sorry but when ya stick your hand into a buzz saw ya gotta expect to draw back a bloody stump. Miss Melly is a film actress and while i can sympathize with a desire to stretch, work or even revive a career if you don not have the skills you shouldn't be struting your stuff in public for $$$. But as i've said before, i blame the producers. I think this is really gonna be tough on the gal.

I wonder if she will be in it when I go to the matinee in August?

Dear DP, as explained before, my friend wanted to see Chicago. Since I did not see it in many years, I agreed. It is during the time when Ms. Griffith will be in the show. Full price was not paid this time. re: re: re: re: Melanie

Why are you crucifying this woman's performance when none of you have seen it? Why are you so vociferously making nasty attacks on her personally when she has done nothign to YOU?

You don't think movie stars should be cast? Many have tried Broadway and failed but some have been relevatory. Are your lives really so sad that you all you have to offer is contributing to negativity around someone trying something?

OK, I agree people who have paid their dues like Tracy Shayne and Valerie Wright who are dynamos should be given the chance- BUT Broadway is for the most part a tourist attraction and tourists are going to go see what they are familiar with. That includes "names."

I like this site because it has yet to devolve into what most working actors in NY call "Stalkin Broadway." But this thread could be over there.

Critique something you have seen...but have the guts to put your name and e-mail out there or you are even worse than Michael Riedel. You have a passion for theatre- use it to make things better, not just act like the people who probably made your lives a living hell throughout high school.

When you have SEEN Melanie, do write a review that says more than "she sucks." And give her credit for putting herself on the line when you do not.

A psychology student would have a field day that most swoon over Antonio because they think he is hot but express so much hatred toward a woman because they are afraid of a sexual female.

Stop perpetuating stereotypes!

Climbing off my soapbox and hpoing this site will be something better than ATC...

Most of the people involved in this thread haven't seen Melanie yet.... but there are some who have and it ain't pretty I'll tell you that.

I will second the notion that poor Bob is spinning in his grave like a food processor. What they did to dumb down the choreography for her is inexcuseable. I understand being rough your first week.. I understand being a name and taking a crack at Broadway. What I DONT understand is when your show is already selling at 103% with virtual no names (to Joe Tourist) headlining, why you would cast someone who has NO talent in the singing and dancing department, and requires THIS much coddling just to complete a simple number. (and yes, I emphasise simple, when my 11 year old brother has had NO formal dance training ever and can replicate 99% of the choreography in Chicago)

Some of us thinks Melanie "sucks" as a movie actress. She also sucked as a Tony presenter when there where far worthier actors and actresses out there who didn't have a famous husband to land that gig for them. Her smug smirk at the Tonys implied an especially self serving attitude when compared to other couples on that Tony stage.

Not everyone is swooning over Antonio, either. In my opinion, although his singing has improved since the "Evita" movie, it still isn't wonderful.

Maybe Melanie is absolutely fabuluous in her Broadway role. I don't enjoy seeing performers fail and with such criticism. I was one of the few that was actually embarrassed for Michael Crawford after DOTV. I hope for everyone's sake she pulls this role off.

But Melanie doesn't sing or dance professionally and I am not impressed with her as an actress. I am impressed with CHICAGO, however, and wish they woulndn't mess with something that ain't broke to begin with.

There is also a board member here who is an extremely reliable source of info concerning CHICAGO and I trust her opinion on this matter. I also feel that Ms. Griffith has not paid her dues as a stage actress. There are many (some are members of theater message boards) who are more talented and have worked for an opportunity to be on a Broadway stage for years. It must be frustrating for them to lose parts to people for whom the phrase "It's not who you know, it's who you blow" applies.

And trust me, some tourists don't like miscast, overrated Hollywood stars causing tickets to sell out shows they have a limited opportunity to see. Those name actors and actresses sell out tickets to the unenlightened, but they prevent those with genuine interest in theater from acquiring seats to the shows they wish to see.

Mrs. B, again let me state that I hope Ms. Griffith is everything her hype says she is. I hope this for her sake and for the rest of the CHICAGO cast and crew. But this is only a message board. There are some very knowledgeable Broadway audience members here and I believe most know what they are talking about. So let's just wait and see.

And being afraid of Melanie as a "sexual female"? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

I have to admit I laughed when I saw that the post in defense of Melanie was by "Mrs. B." (Banderas, perhaps? LOL) I don't really think that, it's just a funny coincidence.

I haven't seen Mel and I won't have the "opportunity" so I really have nothing to say about it. I do know I do not like her as movie actress.

I do not think Antonio is hot in the least, and Mel being dissed because she is "a sexual female"...I don't get the concept. She's not attractive, IMHO. Both of them are "highly over-rated", to quote another thread.

I do suspect that Antonio's life is hell right now, though, especially if there is a computer in the house.
